VinFast e-Scooters are Just Another Form of Electric Mobility

The idea of electric mobility is not exclusive to just automobiles. It is a complete transportation revolution that requires only electricity to propel you from Point A to Point B. With that in mind, VinFast is considering introducing a line of e-scooters to the U.S.A.

Scooters are a fun way to get around town. They are popular on college campuses, such as the University of North Texas, University of Texas-Arlington, Southern Methodist University, the University of Dallas, Texas Christian University, and so forth. They are also a great start for drivers looking to get into motorcycles.

Most scooters are usually powered by a small two- or four-stroke engine. VinFast’s e-scooters are purely powered by an electric drive motor fueled by one or two battery packs. Standard is a single 2.4-kilowatt-hour unit, with the option to add a second one for a longer range. Single-battery models can get up to just over 82 miles of range, while adding the second battery will increase that to over 162 miles.

VinFast already has a lineup of e-scooters available in its home market of Vietnam. The Feliz and Feliz Light are among several models available in this lineup. Power for these performance-oriented e-scooters comes from a 2,800-watt BLDC in-hub motor. The Feliz models are capable of a top speed of just over 43 MPH. All at a price starting from under $1,000 in Vietnam.

Another model available is the Vero X. It sports a modern design, including a TFT color display and a smart key enabled by a smartphone. It also offers 1.2 cubic feet of storage. It was rated to go from 0 to 31 MPH in 15 seconds. This model is currently priced at around $1,326 in Vietnam.

These three models are part of a lineup of five e-scooters, including the Evo Grand and Evo Grand Lite. All of these e-scooters carry a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

The question we’ve been wondering is whether these e-scooters are coming to the U.S.A. While the CleanTechnica website reported on these new models, it did not state precisely when VinFast will bring any of its five models to our market.

Would it be cool if they did? If so, would you like Ewing VinFast of Plano to offer them to you?

The addition of the e-scooters adds another mobility solution to the VinFast lineup of electric SUVs and e-bikes. It provides a variety of choices for anyone looking to travel without fueling up on gasoline.

To get into the electric mobility revolution, contact us at Ewing VinFast of Plano to register your interest in one of these upcoming e-Scooters. We would love to offer them to you when they become available here in the Metroplex.

VinFast Debuts an Armored EV

Vietnam recently celebrated 80 years of independence at the country’s newly built Vietnam Exposition Center in Hanoi. The celebration reminds them all of their August Revolution in 1945 to become a country that could develop its own future. VinFast, a Vietnamese car company, engineered and built a new armored all-electric SUV, one of the first of its kind in the world, to celebrate the occasion.

An Armored EV

The VinFast Lac Hong 900 LX armored car shuttled various heads of state around during the 80th National Day Parade and showed that VinFast is a company built around innovation. The bodywork was clad with impacts from different types of bullets to show off the testing the vehicle endured.

What It Took to Build The 900 LX

Testing an armored car is no small feat, and VinFast says the Lac Hong 900 LX took 440 shots from various types of firearms and 11 explosive tests in the Beschussamt Ulm center in Germany. The 900 LX was awarded the VPAM VR7, a ballistic standard that’s specific to armored vehicles. This means governments and wealthy individuals can use the VinFast armored vehicle to protect important people. A well-known Canadian company called INKAS, which specializes in armored vehicles, helped design and develop the new armored EV.

Other One-Off VinFast Vehicles

The car company also brought a custom convertible VF9 and a series of 12 VF9 police vehicles that will be sent to police stations around the country.

A Lot of Work Goes into Creating a Special Car

The open-top VF9 took a total of 2,400 hours to build, which required the removal of the B, C, and D pillars, as well as supporting the A pillars without a roof. The VF9 received a redesigned front grille, a new paint job, a unique leather interior, and upgrades to the electrical system. The patrol vehicles also received special upgrades, including flag mounts, lights, sirens, and a redesigned hood and grille. The company said it took between 60 and 80 hours per vehicle to prepare them for the event.

What This Means for VinFast and You

While you may not see armored VinFast vehicles in the United States any time soon, this underscores how seriously the company is taking developing and engineering cars built for the world automotive markets. An armored vehicle is a very specialized and unique type of build. The creation of the Lac Hong 900 LX shows that VinFast isn’t afraid of the challenge of creating products that can suit the needs of many different types of buyers in the electric vehicle space.

MotorWeek Tests the VF 8

There is no doubt that VinFast faces challenges in the US. It is a new brand name from a country that has never made cars for the US before, and it is an EV, which many US buyers still view with skepticism. MotorWeek, the first and longest-running automotive television review magazine, checked out the VF 8 for themselves. Ewing VinFast of Plano shares their thoughts.

MotorWeek briefly discussed the history of VinFast’s entry into the United States, including the plans for the North Carolina plant. They plan to build both cars and batteries, but it has been delayed due to market headwinds for EVs.

To set the stage, MotorWeek noted that the length of the VF 8 is about midway between the shorter Volkswagen ID.4 and the longer Honda Prologue. They tested the VF 8 Plus, the more powerful of the two VF 8 trims, with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. As with all EVs, all that torque is available the instant the motor starts turning. They point out the 235-mile range of the Plus model and the 235-mile range of the Eco, and mention that VinFast states a 10-70% charge rate of 31 minutes.

They highlight the VF 8’s “unmistakable Italian flair” as a result of its Pininfarina-designed exterior. While noting that its minimalist dashboard features a large 15-inch center screen for controls, they mention that the absence of a traditional gauge cluster is offset by the bright color head-up display and numerous steering wheel controls, which reduce the need to reach for the screen for basic functions.

Vinfast VF 8 Frunk cargo space

Cargo space, a key factor for crossovers, benefits from rear seats that fold flat, and there’s frunk space where the engine isn’t. Notable for a new manufacturer, MotorWeek found no obvious fit and finish issues.

On the road, they found that the VF 8 delivers smooth and quiet power, and the regenerative braking is well-adjusted with a very natural feel. Sport mode definitely provides a quicker throttle response. In terms of ride and handling, there are no major flaws. However, car reviewers often prefer a sportier feel than the VF 8 offers, although its comfort-focused tuning should suit most people.

Finally, they mention the warranty, which covers 10 years or 125,000 miles for bumper-to-bumper. Such extensive warranties helped build trust in Korean vehicles among a skeptical US public, and we’ve all seen how Hyundai and Kia have grown since then. Overall, MotorWeek found the VF 8 to be an attractive vehicle with good performance and a smooth ride, along with a great warranty. If you want to check out the new player in town, test drive the VF 8 at Ewing VinFast in Plano.

Car Testing Mom Gives the VF 9 a Week-long Family Road Test

New VinFast VF9 Front View

Growing families inevitably mean that the family car will grow as well. Generations ago, this could have meant transitioning from a sedan to a station wagon. Today, we are all essentially driving wagons with our crossovers and SUVs, so the transition is more likely to be from a two-row to a three-row SUV. The latter can seat six, seven, or sometimes eight people securely and comfortably, though the comfort for adult passengers in the third row can vary significantly depending on the model.

Family Road Trip - Testing the VF9

The downside of all this space is usually mpg, as the vehicle size and the powerful engine needed to haul it can make these vehicles quite thirsty. One possible fix for that is the 3-row EV, which is far more efficient than its gas-powered counterparts. The VinFast VF 9 is one of the few 3-row SUVs on the market. Since these vehicles are often driven by moms, Jana Askeland, host of Real Mom Car Tours videos, drove the VF 9 for a week to share her impression of whether the VF 9 has what it takes to be the vehicle for American families. Ewing VinFast of Plano provides the highlights of her review.

With an exterior by Italian design firm Pininfarina, the VF 9 has a remarkably clean look on the front, rear, and profile, where the C-pillars taper in the middle to display the brand’s “V” logo. Fake vents, unusual trim pieces, or unnecessary character lines are absent everywhere. As a nice and unique touch, the key fob matches the vehicle’s exterior color.

The inside is similar, with a 15.6-inch screen covering most of the controls, including permanent climate controls on the lower edge for instant access. The traditional gauge cluster has been replaced by a head-up display that is standard across the model line. Redundant driver information can be found on the upper left of the screen.

Interior Dash and Steering Wheel in the New VinFast VF9

Mom drivers aren’t known for their lead feet. However, Jana still found the VF 9 impressive when acceleration is needed with 400 horsepower and 447 lb-ft of instant torque, enabling a transition from still to 60 mph in just over 6 seconds. Unlike the VF 8, both the Eco and Plus have the same power and dual motors for all-wheel drive.

Range on the VF 9 is an EPA-estimated 287 miles, and the combined MPGe (energy equivalent of miles per gallon) is 68, a figure nearly three times higher than what you’ll find on any gas-powered 3-row SUV. As with any EV, ownership is ideal when you can charge at home. But when you charge on the road, the VF 9 is estimated to go from 10% to 75% in about 31 minutes. This will give you 186 miles or about two and a half hours of driving at 75 mph before you reach 10% again. While this may not match gas-powered rivals, road trips with kids rarely go for two hours between stops anyway.

The test vehicle was a Plus trim with second-row captain’s chairs, accommodating a total of six passengers. Jana demonstrated how easy it is to access the third row using the tilt-tumble function of the second row seats, which creates plenty of space for entering and exiting the third row. Third-row passengers have access to charging ports and large windows to the outside, while the Plus model features a glass roof that extends overhead.

In the meantime, first- and second-row passengers can enjoy heating, and on the Plus trim, ventilation, and even a massage function with multiple settings, which by itself should keep the kids entertained. When stopped, you can watch videos downloaded from YouTube or game apps on the large center screen. All models feature a wireless smartphone charger, Wi-Fi connection, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Cabin storage spaces are plentiful, and dropping or raising the rear seats is simple. At the same time, the VF 9 is a luxurious place to spend time, with the large center screen, attractive vegan leather that looks and feels great, electric door releases (with manual backup), and that truly impressive glass roof on the Plus.

Jana unsurprisingly considers safety a top priority and is supported by the VF 9’s comprehensive suite of standard safety and driver assist features across the entire model lineup, including:

  • Lane Keeping Assist, Centering, and Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Blind Sport Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Intelligent Speed Adaptation
  • Emergency Lane Keeping Assist
  • Highway and Traffic Assist systems
  • 360 Surround View Monitoring

Jana finds the VF 9 to be comfortable, powerful, full of family-friendly and safety features, and she loves the ambient lighting. She also finds security in the VinFast 10-year/125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Building A Custom VinFast Out of Wood

VinFast VF7 Carved out of Wood

VinFast vehicles are making the world a more fun place, especially with the number of fans and enthusiasts the brand is creating. An extremely popular father and son YouTube channel called NDWoodArt, with over 3 million followers, decided to treat the birth of the son’s new child with a special, handmade wooden VinFast, with working lights, mind you.

VinFast VF7 Wood Carved Vehicle

A Truly Special Gift

The video, titled “My Gift to Her: Building a VinFast After our Baby’s Birth,” is a love letter to the creator’s new baby, using his ability to craft beautiful art made out of wood. He starts by creating a steel frame that he attaches working wheels to, and from there, cuts and trims wood panels to make up the body of the car.

VinFast VF7 Frame for Wood Carved Vehicle

A Complete Wooden Copy

But it’s not just a car made from wood. It is a perfect, identical copy of the company’s VF7, complete with the signature VinFast lighted logo on the front and rear, as well as an electric motor attached to the rear wheels and a working steering wheel. While this isn’t a car you’d want to drive down the street, it is a very cool and unique gift as it’s bigger than a dollhouse and can be driven around the yard. Amazingly, it’s also pretty close to a full-size replica of the real car.

VinFast VF7 Wood Carved Vehicle

Each Panel is Made with Care

More impressive is how the wood is crafted. Each panel, including the fenders, roof, and rear hatch, every inch, is perfectly cut and shaped to mimic the real car. The craftsman uses a circular saw to get the initial cut of the wood, then uses a band saw to make the wood panel to mimic the metal used to make the real-life car.

It Even Has a Working Interior

Oh, and possibly the most amazing thing of all, the wooden VinFast also has a full wooden interior that can seat five people. The end of the video shows the creator revealing it to his wife and children, with the vehicle seen driving around local roads at a slow speed to show that it actually works.
