The Right Tires For Your VinFast

All Electric Vehicle Tires

VinFast VF9 in the CityWhen looking to buy new tires for your VinFast, there are a number of factors to take into consideration. Pretty much every major tire brand makes an EV-specific tire, and while some will tell you there’s some marketing magic behind selling EV tires, there are some good reasons to buy them over a normal set of tires.

VinFast VF8 WheelCarmakers and Their Relationships to Tire Companies

Car companies are beginning to work with tire manufacturers to produce model-specific tires for their cars, and VinFast has undoubtedly gone through rigorous testing to know which tires are the best for the VF8 and VF9. The biggest thing to keep in mind when tire shopping is to look at tires that will carry the load of your car. EVs tend to weigh more than gas-powered cars due to the number of batteries needed to power them.

Noise Reduction Tire TechnologyEVs Not Only Weigh More, But Need Proper Tires for That Load

Remember that EVs are around 10% heavier than an internal combustion car, meaning they will usually have more wear on tires. There is data to support that an EV can go through tires up to 20% faster than a standard car, which is why it’s imperative to choose a tire that supports your car’s load rating. One new type of tire that may be beneficial to some owners is High Load (HL) tires. High Load tires are becoming part of the new standard tires for certain EVs as they can handle more of a vehicle’s overall load. Hl means that it will handle the vehicle’s curb weight plus everything it carries, i.e., passengers, luggage, etc. The VF8 has a tire load index of 103, which means that each tire, when filled to its max psi, can carry 1,929 lbs per tire. Multiply that by four, and you have tires that can handle 7,716 lbs. The VF8 weighs about 5,800 lbs, which means it can carry an extra 1,916 lbs worth of people and stuff. However, that weight can add up quickly.

All Electric Vehicle TiresWhy Do EVs Have Less Road Noise?

In general, EVs actually have less road and harsh noises entering the cabin when driving down the road than cars with an internal combustion engine. One of the main reasons why automakers and tire companies want you to buy EV-specific tires is because they are engineered to have lower rolling resistance and allow less road noise into the cabin with a feature called Noise Reduction Technology. This involves tire companies like Goodyear, Michelin, Continental, and more, insulating the tire so that it’s less hollow and/or has different tread patterns, therefore reducing vibrations.

ERange TiresWhat About UHP Tires?

When it’s time to get new tires for your VF8 or VF9, you should take caution before buying performance-oriented EV tires. There are various electric cars that can benefit from having Ultra-High Performance (UHP) tires. However, many EVs, like VinFast models, don’t really need them, as they can lower the efficiency of your car through extra rolling resistance. Hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and non-performance-oriented EVs do come standard with low-rolling-resistance tires to maximize the vehicle’s fuel mileage or electric range.

What About an EV Will Surprise You Over a Gas Car

VinFast VF8 Driving on the Road

VinFast VF8 Driving on the RoadAn EV can be a whole new experience for some drivers, especially when first seeing a car like the VinFast VF8 or VF9 and noticing that they look slightly different from gas-powered vehicles. EVs allow designers to be slightly more creative in various ways, especially since they don’t have to worry about cooling an engine with lots of grilles and holes. But, there are way more things about an electric car that will surprise you in good ways. Let’s take a look.

VinFast VF8 Frunk StorageAcceleration Like You’ve Never Experienced

When first getting into a VinFast, you’ll notice that there isn’t a traditional shifter, and you don’t have to put your foot on the brake to ensure the car does not roll when put into drive. Instead, you need to press the accelerator pedal to make the car move, and it will not move until you do so. There is zero lag or loss of power between the throttle pedal and the battery system. A gas car needs gas to flow into the engine, spark, and then use that as momentum to create momentum. A battery is simply on or off, and pressing the “gas” pedal initiates the “on” that moves the car. The immediate thrust felt when you fully depress the accelerator is all of the vehicle’s torque surging all at once. There is no other feeling like it, except maybe the escape velocity of a rocket heading to outer space at 25,000 miles per hour.

VinFast VF8 Charging at a Public ChargerSimple Maintenance

Now let’s talk maintenance. A VinFast, or any other electric vehicle, does not require a routine oil change every 5,000 miles. There is no oil in the cars to change, so that’s one major service you can completely forget about. An internal combustion engine needs coolant to stay cool, and because of this, you need to change that fluid at least every couple of years. However, an EV only uses coolant to keep the batteries cool, so when your car’s brought in for service, the technicians will simply check the coolant level and top up if needed. There are also fewer ways for coolant to leak from an EV than from an ICE car.

VinFast VF8 Wheel DetailBrakes Last Much Longer

Overall, an EV requires much less maintenance than a conventional gas car. For instance, the brake and power steering fluid do need to be flushed and refilled during a regular maintenance interval. You will, in turn, spend much less money because an EV’s brakes last much longer. Thanks to the technology discussed further down, the pads and rotors can last upwards of 100,000 miles.

VinFast VF8 TouchscreenRegenerative Braking

When stopping with an EV, you will notice that, like any other car, the brakes work as they should. But the brakes of an electric car do something very clever. Every time you tap the brakes in a car, you are losing kinetic energy, so engineers and scientists created a procedure where, when braking, the lost energy is captured by the car and sent to the battery to feed it that extra energy, which in turn adds to the vehicle’s range.

Couple getting into a 2025 VinFast VF9Shhh….

A big thing that first-time electric vehicle owners report is how quiet their car is. Because there is no engine that combusts and rattles, or an exhaust that sends harmful emissions out of a tailpipe, an EV is like sitting in a room when everyone’s left the house, and it’s just you sitting in a chair enjoying the silence. EVs have also been engineered to allow less wind and road noise into the cabin, further enhancing this serenity.

The World’s Best Warranty and Care

There is genuinely nothing like an electric vehicle, and especially nothing else on the market like a VinFast. With their 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and the industry’s best 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty, you will be taken care of in every way. No one protects their car more than VinFast, and it shows in how much customers love the after-sales experience.

Why Are You More Relaxed Driving An EV In Rush Hour Traffic vs ICE Cars

NYC Traffic - Driving a VinFast EV in Traffic

NYC Traffic - Driving a VinFast EV in TrafficTraffic is by far the most annoying and frustrating part of driving, especially when you’re just trying to get home from work at the end of a long day. While driving a car is freeing, especially with all the places you can go to so quickly and easily, being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic makes many people very angry and annoyed. People tend to report that driving a vehicle with an internal combustion engine (ICE) makes them more irrational and angrier when stuck in traffic. However, people also report that they stay calmer and more composed when driving an EV like a VinFast. Why is that?

VinFast VF8 Driving on a City StreetDifferent Factors in What Creates Noise When Driving a Car

Gas-powered cars are loud and noisy. Between the engine, exhaust, wind, road, and tire noise, driving a standard car in traffic can make people run hotter under the collar. On hot days, your air conditioning can run worse, and when sitting in traffic, you may not feel as cool and relaxed. On the other hand, though, multiple studies have shown that those who drive a VinFast or other EV experience less fatigue and anger when driving an EV thanks to its comfortable seats, quiet interior, and isolated feelings from the outside traffic noise and worries.

A Big Difference in Base Noise Levels

Because of the major differences in noise between an EV and an ICE car, people are at a calmer baseline. With a gas car, the base noise level is many decibels higher, meaning that you feel like you have an annoying tone stuck in your head.

VinFast VF8 Interior CockpitThe Sound System Can Be at A More Sensible Level

Another great reason EVs make you feel calmer while driving is that you don’t have to turn the sound system up as loud to drown out the other noises. Some cars have a natural bass-heavy drone, and turning up the radio can cut down on the sound but also start to give you a headache. Or, you can have that headache listening to the drone driving down the road. Take your pick. An EV is quieter; therefore, you don’t have to turn your music up as loudly to mask or knock out other annoying drones and tones.

EVs Are Engineered To be Quieter for A Reason

For all of the advances in automotive engineering, cars are meant to allow quite a bit of noise into the cabin for various reasons. Sometimes, if the car is sporty, drivers want to hear the engine and exhaust, which means the car needs less sound deadening. However, that also means you’ll hear more natural sounds coming from the road, such as tire and wind noise. Since an EV doesn’t have an engine, engineers do not want drivers to focus on the annoyances of hearing even more of the outside world, so extra sound deadening, thicker materials, more aerodynamic mirrors, and even quieter tires are designed and developed to decrease the base levels of outside noise.

VinFast VF8 Seats Interior ViewRange Anxiety Is a Thing of the Past

Drivers used to feel more anxiety driving an EV because they were less confident in the range of the vehicle and having to find a charging station. Now, though, range anxiety isn’t experienced as much now that there are thousands more charging stations, and with the advances in battery tech, electric cars, like the VinFast VF8 and VF9, can drive farther than before.

How to Optimize and Improve Your Electric Car’s Range Overnight

VinFast VF8 Passenger

VinFast VF8 PassengerDriving a VinFast VF8 and VF9 is exhilarating. Unlike a gas-powered car, an EV has an immediate surge of power and thrust as soon as you touch the throttle. Unlike a gas-powered car that has so many things that have to happen all at once to make the power and torque to move the car, an EV has a battery and a gearbox and that’s pretty much it.

Faster Than You Think

While both VinFast vehicles aren’t performance cars, they feel much faster than their 0-60 mph times show simply due to the fact that there is no lag or delay between when the throttle is pressed and when the car goes. However, while this is fun and it is addictive, you can lose range very quickly. Let’s talk about some ways that you can improve your car’s range.

VinFast Smartphone AppEase Up on the Throttle a Bit

Step one is simple: your foot can modulate the throttle. You don’t have to put the pedal to the metal like you’re the Bandit in Smokey and the Bandit. Your daily commute doesn’t call for a drag race at every traffic light. Gas cars and EVs are similar in this regard. While a gas car uses more fuel the more throttle it’s given, an EV uses more battery power the more you lean into the accelerator. Just chill. No one’s racing for pink slips out here.

Take the Slower Roads for Maximum Efficiency

If you don’t have a set time that you have to be somewhere, or if you leave early enough, set your route guidance to avoid highways and areas with lots of traffic. Instead, take the scenic route that allows you to drive at slower speeds rather than 55 mph and higher. This will allow your VinFast to maintain optimal range without putting much stress on the motor.

VinFast VF8 Charging at HomeTry to Limit Your Heat Settings

Be careful not to overuse your heat settings such as heated seats, defroster, and high amounts of heat in general. If you can, run your car plugged into the charger to use the defroster, heated seats, and heater to get the car warmed up before you leave. You can even do this through the VinFast Smartphone app

Protect Your Battery

Make sure that you are only charging your car’s battery to 70-80 percent overnight, and while you are on the road you’re only charging to 100 percent when you need the range. This is ideal for the battery’s overall health and makes sure that it isn’t being stressed during charging. But, if anything does happen to the battery and it starts to lose capacity, VinFast protects you with a ten-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty that is unlike any other EV brand on the market.

VinFast VF8 TouchscreenTake Care of Your Tires

Last but not least, take care of your EV’s tires. EVs can be a little harder on tires simply because of the extra weight. Make sure they are inflated to proper levels, especially with weather changes when the tires are most likely to lose some air. Having a tire that is under- or over-inflated can create more friction at certain speeds, forcing the car to work harder to gain speed.

Enjoy Your Ride

More than anything, enjoy your VinFast. It’s a car that’s been designed and engineered to make your life easier, so work with it to get the best experience for yourself and to have a long-lasting and reliable electric vehicle.

Some Things to Consider When Replacing Tires on Your VinFast

Noise Reduction Tire Technology

Noise Reduction Tire TechnologyTires are tires… they’re all the same, right? Very wrong. Sports cars should use tires specific to performance driving, while SUVs and trucks should use tires that can handle the loads of towing and hauling. An electric vehicle should utilize the tires that come with the vehicle. Why? Because the automaker, such as VinFast, has worked with tire companies to engineer tires that are best for road noise, ride quality, longevity, heavy loads, and efficiency.

VinFast VF9 Front ViewNoise, Vibration, Harshness

Electric cars, like the VinFast VF8, have less overall harsh noises when driving than a standard gas-powered car. Since there is no engine, exhaust, etc., an EV is quieter. However, tires inherently invite harsh sounds into the cabin through vibrations. The reason being that they try to mellow out the driving surface for optimal comfort and performance. Because an EV is quiet, tire manufacturers have had to engineer tires that do not emit as many harsh tones into the vehicle’s cabin through new advancements in tire tech called Noise Reduction Technology. This typically involves tire companies insulating the tire so that it’s less hollow and/or different tread patterns, therefore reducing vibrations.

Michelin Pilot Sport EV TiresShould You Buy UHP Tires?

When looking for new tires for your VinFast, be careful of performance-oriented EV tires. While some electric vehicles benefit greatly from having tires that are called Ultra-High Performance (UHP), many EVs simply don’t need them, as they will destroy the efficiency of your car through extra rolling resistance. Most hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and non-performance-oriented EVs rely heavily on low-rolling-resistance tires to maximize the vehicle’s fuel mileage or electric range.

Always Look at the Load Rating

One thing to also keep in mind as you are looking for tires is that EVs are typically about 10% heavier than a gas-powered car, meaning that they can wear through tires more quickly. According to some data, an EV can go through tires up to 20% faster than a standard car, which is why you want to make sure you are buying the right tires for your car’s load rating. New High Load (HL) tires are becoming part of the new standard tires for certain EVs in order to handle the extra overall vehicle load, meaning its curb weight plus the amount of weight it can carry inside the vehicle, i.e., passengers, luggage, etc. The VF8 has a tire load index of 103, which means that each tire when filled to its max psi, can carry 1,929 lbs per tire. Time that by four, and you have tires that can handle 7,716 lbs. The VF8 weighs about 5,800 lbs, which means it can carry an extra 1,916 lbs worth of people and stuff. But be careful because that adds up quickly.

2024 VinFast VF8 On the RoadWhich Tires Are Best for Your VinFast?

Ultimately, it is best to stick with the same tires you already have on your VinFast when looking for a new set of tires. That is unless you’re willing to spend a bunch of money going through different sets of tires every few months to know which ones you prefer.
