How To Tow An EV Properly

Driving an electric vehicle, such as a VinFast, as your everyday car is a great way to save time by avoiding stops for gas, dealing with the harsh sounds and smells that come from a gas engine, and the maintenance is significantly less. There’s no need to change the oil, the brakes last longer, and your drive is overall quieter and more peaceful. The amount of time and money you save charging from home also makes an EV extremely cost-effective, especially with gas prices being so inconsistent.

The Average Daily Commute

The average driver in 2025 puts about 35-40 miles on their car per day. With the VF8 offering a range of 235 to 256 miles and the VF9 offering a range of 291 to 330 miles, both crossovers are perfectly suited for more than just your daily commute.

RVs and EVs

So, let’s say you have an RV or are considering buying one, and you would like to tow your vehicle or purchase a vehicle that can be towed. People with RVs typically tow a smaller vehicle so that when they arrive at their travel destination, they can drive the smaller car, truck, or SUV around town to get groceries, go out to eat, or meet up with friends. An EV makes a lot of sense since it’s quiet when driven in an RV park or camping grounds, and has excellent range to do what you want or need to do.

RV Towing a vehicle

Towing An EV Is Different

However, an EV is slightly different when it comes to towing. It’s typical to see a vehicle being flat towed behind an RV, which means a vehicle that’s being towed with all four wheels on the ground. Basically, it appears to be following too closely to the RV in front of it. However, you can’t really do this with an EV for multiple reasons.

Why It’s Different

An EV generates a lot of heat when the motor(s) are on, and the wheels are spinning, which is why EVs have coolers and cooling functions to keep the batteries from overheating. When you are towing an EV, those functions aren’t turned on, so the cooling system will likely not be working properly to cool the batteries as the wheels are spinning. Additionally, electric vehicles typically lack a neutral gear in their one- or two-speed transmissions. Therefore, towing could cause damage to the vehicle’s drivetrain.

Towing Your VinFast Properly

So, then, how exactly can you tow your VinFast behind your recreational vehicle? Simply put, if you are towing an EV, it is best to use a flatbed trailer, similar to what you would rent from U-Haul or another company. This is a trailer with four wheels that you can safely strap your EV onto.

The Good Things About the VinFast VF 9

Dark Grey Vinfast V( EV SUV

Dark Grey Vinfast V( EV SUV

Our three-row electric SUV, the 2025 VinFast VF 9, is a worthy choice for families on the go. In this model, you can take everyone along for the ride across the Metroplex. The VF 9 is designed to get you there in comfort and style.

Recently, AutoGuide did a review of the 2025 VF 9. They found plenty of goodness to share from their experience. They appreciated the exterior design. AutoGuide wrote, “[t]he Pininfarina-penned lines are modern and distinctive, with stylish full-width lighting elements and V-shaped elements.” The VF 9’s exterior offers a lot of unique elements that make it stand out in the crowd. The C-pillar glass is one element that attracts people to its charms. They also liked the “twin pass-throughs in the nose” that “feed into a massive hood scoop that helps with aerodynamics.” AutoGuide even calls this design element “exotic” – a compliment, indeed! In addition, the ride quality is enhanced thanks to a 123.9-inch wheelbase

The 2025 VF 9 can seat six or seven people, depending on configuration. Passengers enjoy an advanced cabin with a large 15.4-inch center digital display touchscreen, serving as their hub for information and connectivity. That also includes wireless smartphone connectivity. Passengers can also enjoy the large panoramic roof, giving them the sun, the moon, and the stars from above.

Underneath the cabin is a 123-kilowatt-hour battery pack. It fuels an all-wheel drive two-motor driveline that is rated for 402 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. It is also rated to accelerate from 0-62 MPH in 6.5 seconds. ECO models can achieve a range of up to 330 miles on a full battery, while Plus models have a range of 291 miles. You also have access to 95% of all available DC Public Fast Charging stations across the U.S.A.

The 2025 VF 9 is backed by one of the best warranties of any new vehicle in this country. Peace of mind comes from a 10-year/125,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty plus a 10-year/unlimited-mile warranty on the battery pack. Plus, our dealer network is growing across the country to provide you with exceptional service and support for your 2025 VF 9, including your hometown dealer – Ewing VinFast of Plano.

Looking at the VG Wild, VinFast’s Electric Pickup Concept

So far, the models VinFast markets in the US, as well as the expected upcoming models, are all SUVs or crossovers. This makes sense since these are the vehicle types consumers in the US and around the world prefer. However, people also buy quite a few pickup trucks, especially in the US. In early 2024, VinFast unveiled a concept for an electric pickup truck. There is no larger market for pickup trucks than Texas, so Ewing VinFast of Plano shares the VinFast VF Wild pickup truck concept with you.

“We are very proud to introduce the VF Wild concept, which encapsulates our mission to make sustainable, high-quality electric vehicles accessible to a broader market. This is not just a new product in our offering – it showcases our aspiration to venture into the fast-paced and thriving electric pickup truck market.” – Ms. Tran Mai Hoa, Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing, VinFast Global.

The VinFast Wild measures 209 inches in length and 79 inches in width. This places it firmly in the growing midsize truck segment, where it is just a few inches shorter and narrower than a Chevrolet Colorado. The 5-foot-long bed can be extended to eight feet using a power-operated midgate that folds with the second-row seats. This feature, currently available on GM’s full-size electric trucks, makes even more sense for a midsize truck and would give the VF Wild the longest cargo capacity in its segment.

The VF Wild’s exterior was jointly designed with Australian design studio GoMotiv. The front features a flattened version of the signature VF front-end styling seen in the VF 9, along with VinFast’s full-width horizontal taillights, with the center V logo prominently displayed on the top of the tailgate. The C-Pillar even echoes the treatment found on the VF 9. The vehicle also has a distinctive two-tone lower body treatment, which designers say was inspired by the motion of a superhero’s cape in the wind, showing that car designers can draw inspiration from almost anything.

The model features a very aggressive front skid plate and rear-hinged rear side doors paired with frameless front doors, which is unique for a pickup. There is also a concept vehicle favorite: thin stalks housing cameras instead of side mirrors, with views displayed on LCD screens at the base of the A-pillars, which are likely the first features to be removed if the model reaches production.

There was no mention of the concept’s battery or motors, but the existing drivetrain of the VF 9 would probably work well with the VF Wild. There has been little discussion of the VF Wild since its debut, and it may be that Vinfast is observing how the EV pickup truck market is performing in the US and other regions before launching its own.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for a midsize EV SUV that offers great value, check out the VF 8 and VF 9 at Ewing VinFast of Plano.

VinFast Debuts an Armored EV

VinFast VF Lac-Hong Armored EV

VinFast VF Lac-Hong Armored EV

Vietnam recently celebrated 80 years of independence at the country’s newly built Vietnam Exposition Center in Hanoi. The celebration reminds them all of their August Revolution in 1945 to become a country that could develop its own future. VinFast, a Vietnamese car company, engineered and built a new armored all-electric SUV, one of the first of its kind in the world, to celebrate the occasion.

An Armored EV

The VinFast Lac Hong 900 LX armored car shuttled various heads of state around during the 80th National Day Parade and showed that VinFast is a company built around innovation. The bodywork was clad with impacts from different types of bullets to show off the testing the vehicle endured.

What It Took to Build The 900 LX

Testing an armored car is no small feat, and VinFast says the Lac Hong 900 LX took 440 shots from various types of firearms and 11 explosive tests in the Beschussamt Ulm center in Germany. The 900 LX was awarded the VPAM VR7, a ballistic standard that’s specific to armored vehicles. This means governments and wealthy individuals can use the VinFast armored vehicle to protect important people. A well-known Canadian company called INKAS, which specializes in armored vehicles, helped design and develop the new armored EV.

Other One-Off VinFast Vehicles

The car company also brought a custom convertible VF9 and a series of 12 VF9 police vehicles that will be sent to police stations around the country.

A Lot of Work Goes into Creating a Special Car

The open-top VF9 took a total of 2,400 hours to build, which required the removal of the B, C, and D pillars, as well as supporting the A pillars without a roof. The VF9 received a redesigned front grille, a new paint job, a unique leather interior, and upgrades to the electrical system. The patrol vehicles also received special upgrades, including flag mounts, lights, sirens, and a redesigned hood and grille. The company said it took between 60 and 80 hours per vehicle to prepare them for the event.

What This Means for VinFast and You

While you may not see armored VinFast vehicles in the United States any time soon, this underscores how seriously the company is taking developing and engineering cars built for the world automotive markets. An armored vehicle is a very specialized and unique type of build. The creation of the Lac Hong 900 LX shows that VinFast isn’t afraid of the challenge of creating products that can suit the needs of many different types of buyers in the electric vehicle space.

Car Testing Mom Gives the VF 9 a Week-long Family Road Test

New VinFast VF9 Front View

Growing families inevitably mean that the family car will grow as well. Generations ago, this could have meant transitioning from a sedan to a station wagon. Today, we are all essentially driving wagons with our crossovers and SUVs, so the transition is more likely to be from a two-row to a three-row SUV. The latter can seat six, seven, or sometimes eight people securely and comfortably, though the comfort for adult passengers in the third row can vary significantly depending on the model.

Family Road Trip - Testing the VF9

The downside of all this space is usually mpg, as the vehicle size and the powerful engine needed to haul it can make these vehicles quite thirsty. One possible fix for that is the 3-row EV, which is far more efficient than its gas-powered counterparts. The VinFast VF 9 is one of the few 3-row SUVs on the market. Since these vehicles are often driven by moms, Jana Askeland, host of Real Mom Car Tours videos, drove the VF 9 for a week to share her impression of whether the VF 9 has what it takes to be the vehicle for American families. Ewing VinFast of Plano provides the highlights of her review.

With an exterior by Italian design firm Pininfarina, the VF 9 has a remarkably clean look on the front, rear, and profile, where the C-pillars taper in the middle to display the brand’s “V” logo. Fake vents, unusual trim pieces, or unnecessary character lines are absent everywhere. As a nice and unique touch, the key fob matches the vehicle’s exterior color.

The inside is similar, with a 15.6-inch screen covering most of the controls, including permanent climate controls on the lower edge for instant access. The traditional gauge cluster has been replaced by a head-up display that is standard across the model line. Redundant driver information can be found on the upper left of the screen.

Interior Dash and Steering Wheel in the New VinFast VF9

Mom drivers aren’t known for their lead feet. However, Jana still found the VF 9 impressive when acceleration is needed with 400 horsepower and 447 lb-ft of instant torque, enabling a transition from still to 60 mph in just over 6 seconds. Unlike the VF 8, both the Eco and Plus have the same power and dual motors for all-wheel drive.

Range on the VF 9 is an EPA-estimated 287 miles, and the combined MPGe (energy equivalent of miles per gallon) is 68, a figure nearly three times higher than what you’ll find on any gas-powered 3-row SUV. As with any EV, ownership is ideal when you can charge at home. But when you charge on the road, the VF 9 is estimated to go from 10% to 75% in about 31 minutes. This will give you 186 miles or about two and a half hours of driving at 75 mph before you reach 10% again. While this may not match gas-powered rivals, road trips with kids rarely go for two hours between stops anyway.

The test vehicle was a Plus trim with second-row captain’s chairs, accommodating a total of six passengers. Jana demonstrated how easy it is to access the third row using the tilt-tumble function of the second row seats, which creates plenty of space for entering and exiting the third row. Third-row passengers have access to charging ports and large windows to the outside, while the Plus model features a glass roof that extends overhead.

VinFast VF9 Interior Rear Cargo

In the meantime, first- and second-row passengers can enjoy heating, and on the Plus trim, ventilation, and even a massage function with multiple settings, which by itself should keep the kids entertained. When stopped, you can watch videos downloaded from YouTube or game apps on the large center screen. All models feature a wireless smartphone charger, Wi-Fi connection, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Cabin storage spaces are plentiful, and dropping or raising the rear seats is simple. At the same time, the VF 9 is a luxurious place to spend time, with the large center screen, attractive vegan leather that looks and feels great, electric door releases (with manual backup), and that truly impressive glass roof on the Plus.

Jana unsurprisingly considers safety a top priority and is supported by the VF 9’s comprehensive suite of standard safety and driver assist features across the entire model lineup, including:

  • Lane Keeping Assist, Centering, and Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Blind Sport Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Intelligent Speed Adaptation
  • Emergency Lane Keeping Assist
  • Highway and Traffic Assist systems
  • 360 Surround View Monitoring

Jana finds the VF 9 to be comfortable, powerful, full of family-friendly and safety features, and she loves the ambient lighting. She also finds security in the VinFast 10-year/125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
