VinFast Grows its Dealer Network in San Diego, California

The EV Report Finds the VF 8 Impressive

The EV Report is dedicated to providing news, insights, and development trends related to electric vehicles. They are committed to informing about all areas of the EV industry, lifestyle, and available products. Thus, it comes as no surprise that they have turned their attention to VinFast, specifically, the VF 8. They cover several aspects of the VF 8, and Ewing VinFast shares with you the highlights of what they found.

The EV Report begins its review with this summary: “The VinFast VF 8 blends luxury, technology, and affordability, offering Baby Boomers and Gen X a stylish, tech-forward SUV with advanced safety, premium features, and competitive pricing.” They highlight these specific age groups because they have spent a lifetime adapting to and embracing high-tech products. Unspoken but perhaps implied is that these generations have had environmental concerns as a backdrop throughout their lives, leading to an interest in a no-emission vehicle.

They start with the VF 8’s design. VinFast enlisted acclaimed automobile designers Pininfarina for the model’s exterior. The renowned designer of models like the Ferrari Testarossa, 250 GT Lusso, and F40, among others, has also crafted well-known designs for Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Peugeot. While they can’t give this mid-size crossover the dramatic lines of an Italian sports car, they ensured the VF 8 has attractive proportions and that all curves and surfaces have a cohesive appearance.

They also highlight the “Luxurious Interior,” pointing out features like the 15.6-inch center display, the single point location for all vehicle information, as well as the comfortable available vegan leather seating surfaces and heated and cooled seats. They describe it as a “meticulous attention to detail, creating a European-style interior that feels both premium and eco-conscious.”

They also pointed out the VF 8’s impressive range of safety features, such as 11 airbags, including dual knee airbags and an extra airbag between the front passengers. Additionally, it features the standard Advanced Driver-Assistance System, which includes:

Along with the above standard safety and driver assist aides, the VF 8 includes interior comfort features like an 8-way power driver seat and a 6-way power front passenger seat, both with heated capability and ambient interior lighting. Plus, the dual-motor system provides 349 hp of power, which powers the all-wheel drive. These are all on a model with a starting MSRP of $39,900. The Plus model, priced at $44,900, offers 402 horsepower along with a panoramic sunroof, 12-way and 10-way power driver and front passenger seats, and a 10-speaker audio system with a subwoofer.

This is familiar territory for a new car brand from a new country. Fifty years ago, the Japanese made a name for themselves in this country by offering vehicles with high-value features. Two decades later, Korean manufacturers introduced themselves in the same way. The only difference today is that VinFast enters with the drivetrain choice of the future, which is also new to established brands of all backgrounds. VinFast Expands Production Into India With New Factory

The demand for VinFast vehicles has been high globally. With new markets opening and enhancing current ones, it seems like the right step is to add more production capacity. This led to the opening of a new production facility in Thoothukudi, India, in the Tamil Nadu state. Located near the southern tip of India, the new plant has plenty of advantages with nearby roadways and ports for delivering new vehicles within the country and beyond.

The 400-acre site is the first VinFast production facility outside of Vietnam. It also marks the third production facility among five such projects to be built worldwide. The site includes multiple workshops: a Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Control Center, and a Logistics Hub. The site is set to bring 3,000-5,000 local workers into direct-hire jobs set to produce 50,000 vehicles, namely the VF 6 and VF 7. The facility can be scaled up to produce up to 150,000 vehicles. This is also a part of a global strategy to sell 200,000 vehicles in 2025, with a goal of 1,000,000 sales by 2030.

India has had a history of automotive production in the vast nation. The Tamil Nadu state is becoming a huge production hub due to its strategic geographical location for exports across the Indian Ocean, as well as to feed the growing domestic and regional market – including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar – to name a few nearby national markets.

The other piece to opening up the plant in Tamil Nadu state is a push towards sustainable production and adding EVs into the mix. India also has a huge potential for a push towards vehicular electrification and acceptance of vehicles, such as the VF 6 and VF 7, on Indian roads.

To accomplish these goals in Southern India, VinFast has engaged with local companies to create a supply chain within the state, along with technology transfer and workforce development.

What does that mean for us? Eventually, the U.S. market may see Indian-produced VinFast vehicles if the lineup expands to include these smaller models. If we see a growth in demand for these EVs across the board, could we possibly see a plant on this side of the Pacific Ocean? Maybe in Texas?

Modern EVs, while great, are often assumed to have more compromises than gas-powered cars. The main assumption is that buying an electric car means giving up things, like charge times versus gas refill times, or overall range. However, the VinFast VF8 continues to prove that “trade-offs” are a thing of the past when it comes to buying a vehicle that’s made for the future but available now.

The Price of the VF8 Warrants a Look

Many new and used car buyers are curious and interested in buying an EV, but many think an electric-powered car is so expensive to buy, own, and operate. Yet, that just isn’t the case. Cargo Space

Practicality doesn’t fall by the wayside either, as the VF8 has ample space for five passengers, their luggage, and room left over. Owners will find 13.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 48.4 cubic feet when folded flat. In the front trunk, or frunk, lies an extra 2.7 cu.ft.

Special Modes

More than anything, though, is the power of the 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display that shows every relevant bit of information for your car. More so, features like Camp Mode and Pet Mode that let you set a temperature for the interior while you enjoy hanging out.

Sony RIDEVU

Furthermore, with the 15.6-inch infotainment system, the VF8 is able to play 2,000 movies and TV shows on the screen when parked, thanks to Sony Pictures Entertainment and its free Sony RIDEVU service. If the car is in motion, passengers can watch content on devices that are connected to the in-car WiFi hotspot.

VinFast VF9 Showcases the Need for Large, Comfortable EV SUVs

In a world where every buyer wants a three-row SUV for their family or just in case they end up having a family, VinFast is meeting the challenge by offering the VF9. There is a rising need for larger vehicles that can accommodate people in the third row and also be eco-friendly.

One of the Few 3-Row EV Options

There are very few electric options on the market that have a third row, and the VF9 is one of the first and also one of the most accessible with a starting MSRP of $62,900. This is thousands less than equivalent vehicles from Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Rivian, BMW, Kia, and Hyundai.

What Comes Standard

Optioning your VF9 starts you off with deciding whether you want the Eco or the Plus model. But first, regardless of trim, the VF9 comes standard with all-wheel drive, something most other large EV SUVs can’t say. From there, each VF9 also has a dual-motor setup with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. Both trims come with a Head-Up Display as standard, something that, again, most other EVs don’t include.

Performance

Testing shows a consistent 6.7-seconds to get to 60 mph from a dead stop, which makes it reasonably quick. However, it will feel quicker when you’re behind the wheel because of the no-lag electric powertrain. Even though they share the same powertrain and all, the Eco actually gets 330 miles on a full charge while the Plus has 291 miles. Both are very competitive against more established brands.

Behind the third row, owners will find 7.5 cubic feet of space and 32.7 cubic feet when that row is folded flat. The front trunk, or frunk, can also hold an extra 3.5 cu.ft. of cargo, such as groceries, backpacks, and the like.

Device Charging

Even though the VF9 is still very new, reviewers have been saying that the third row is actually a nice place to be for kids and adults, with two USB-A charge ports, one for each seat. The second row is available as a bench in Eco models or with optional captain’s chairs in the Plus trim. This means you can choose to have either seven or eight seats in your car. If you choose the captain’s chairs, the second-row passengers will get a total of four USB-A ports to charge their devices. A 90-watt USB-C port is standard on all models in the second row. The Plus model also gets an 8-inch rear screen as standard.

Sony RIDEVU

Both trim levels also come standard with an in-car WiFi hotspot and Sony RIDEVU for free. Sony RIDEVU is a service provided by Sony Pictures Entertainment that offers users the ability watch 2,000 different shows and movies from their archive on any device connected to the vehicle’s WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen display when the VF9 is parked. This makes camping with kids a whole new experience.

Speaking of camping, if you decide to take your family around the great outdoors, you can also tow up to 4,000 lbs when properly equipped. This means you can bring along a trailer, boat, jet ski, or what have you on your family adventures.
