VF8 vs VF9: Which Is Best for You?

VinFast VF9 Front Side View

VinFast is quickly making strides to provide electric vehicles for enthusiasts and first-time EV customers with two excellent options for those looking for a variety of SUV sizes. The VF8 is the smaller yet more cost-conscious vehicle in the range, while the VF9 is a larger vehicle that not only comfortably seats up to eight people but also offers a bit more for the extra money you’re spending. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers to see which one is truly the best fit for you.

VinFast VF9 Front Side ViewThe VF9

As mentioned before, the VF9 Eco is an 8-passenger EV SUV. However, it does have the option to seat seven when buying the top-of-the-line Plus trim level. Plus models feature second-row captain’s chairs for extra comfort for rear passengers. VinFast says that Eco models will give owners 330 miles of driving range, and the Plus model offers 291 miles. With such a good range, the VF9 is able to compete well against both gas and electric SUVs alike. Both models come standard with dual motors, a 123-kWh battery, and all-wheel drive with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque.

New VinFast VF8 Front View While DrivingThe VF8

VF8 is also available in just two trims to keep the confusion and guessing game out of buying your VinFast. Eco trim levels have a base price of $47,325, and the Plus trim starts from $51,800. Both trims have dual motors with 87.7-kWh batteries that give Eco models 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque for the Plus trims. This is a very healthy amount of power and torque, giving customers plenty of get-up-and-go while not having so much horsepower that it wastes battery usage. VinFast says the VF8 can get from 0-60 mph in just 5.9 seconds with the Eco and 5.5 in the Plus. The EPA says drivers can expect 264 miles for Eco models and 243 miles for Plus models between charges.

New VinFast VF9 Interior Dash ViewCharging Times for Both Vehicles

When it comes to charging times, both offer fast charging, whether at home or on the go. For owners charging at a Level 3 DC fast charger, the VF8 will go from 10% to 70% charge in just 31 minutes, while the VF9 takes a tad longer at 35 minutes for the same percentage.

New VinFast VF8 FrunkThe VinFast Home Charger

Most buyers will be charging their cars at home, and VinFast even offers its own charger that can be purchased for $599 and easily installed by a qualified professional. The charger features a max power of 12kW, or 240 volts and 50 amps. The VinFast charger gives owners the flexibility of using WiFi, Bluetooth, or Ethernet to connect to the charger and monitor the vehicle’s state of charge. Using the VinFast mobile app, the vehicle’s state of charge can be tracked easily from anywhere. As a Level 2 charger, the VinFast Home Charger is eight times faster than plugging the vehicle into a standard 120-volt wall outlet.

New VinFast VF8 Rear Cargo ViewInterior Capacities

Both vehicles are good-sized crossover SUVs and have plenty of space for either a single household, people with pets, young families, or families that are bursting at the seams with kids and stuff. The 2024 VF8 features 13.2 cu-ft of space behind the second row of seats and 48.4 when they’re folded, and 2.7 cubes of space in the front trunk or frunk. Since the VF9 can seat up to eight people, it obviously has a bit more room and capacity. With the third row in place, customers will have 7.48 cu.ft. of trunk space and 32.7 cu.ft. with the third row folded.

New VinFast VF9 FrunkInfotainment and One-of-a-Kind Entertainment

The VF8 and VF9 each offer customers a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with a standard Head-Up Display (HUD). As you may have seen in our comparisons between the VF8 and other EVs on the market, the HUD seems to be an option that most automakers don’t seem to find important because only a couple of different vehicles even have a HUD as an option, with most not featuring the technology at all. Something else that other automakers can’t say their vehicle has is Sony RIDEVU. Sony Pictures Entertainment provides RIDEVU as a way of giving VinFast customers the ability to watch 2,000 different Sony-owned movies and TV shows either on the main 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the vehicle is in park, or on any device that is attached to the in-car WiFi system.

Leasing Specials and Warranties

No matter which vehicle is best for you, both offer good lease specials to entice new buyers. You can walk into Ewing VinFast of Plano right now and lease a VF8 Eco for just $199 per month for 36 months with $0 down and 10,000 miles per year, or for just $249 per month, you can get the top-of-the-line Plus trim. The Vietnamese electric car manufacturer is offering the VF9 to customers for just $529 per month with $2,000 down on a 24-month lease. Don’t forget that VinFast also offers the absolute best warranty for any EV or non-EV on the market, with a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.

VinFast VF9 Front Side View

VinFast VF9 Front Side ViewVinFast is fast becoming one of the go-to electric vehicle companies. The company’s first three-row SUV, the VF9, is soon to arrive at Ewing VinFast, which means we need to take some time to introduce this model to customers properly. While the VF8 has quickly become one of the best EVs on the market, the VF9 looks to increase buyers’ options within the VinFast family.

The VF9 is available in two trim levels, Eco and Plus. Eco models will give owners 330 miles of range, with the Plus model offering 291 miles, which means that as a larger, 3-row SUV, the VF9 can compete with some of the best electric and gas-powered vehicles of similar size. Both models come standard with dual motors, a 123 kWh battery, and all-wheel drive with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. Unlike most SUVs on the market, the VF9 comes standard with a Head-Up Display (HUD), so drivers never have to take their eyes off the road to see navigation information, range, music, etc.

Steps for Having a Home Charger Installed

VinFast VF8 Charging at Home

VinFast EV Charging at HomeHaving a home charger installed is one of the first steps a new electric vehicle owner should take, and with the VinFast Home Charger, the process can be much simpler. Many EVs are being sold to first-time buyers, and that can potentially lead to new owners becoming overwhelmed with learning what kind of home charger they should buy.

An Affordable Option for Home Charging

For just $599, the Home Charger takes the pressure off new buyers trying to find the right charger to install in their homes. The VinFast charger meets the demanding certifications of NEMA 4 (a type of weatherproof case), UL, CSA, EnergyStar, and FCC regulations.

VinFast VF8 Charging at HomePlenty of Power and Features

With 12kW, or 240 volts and 50 amps, of max power, the charger will have no issues charging any new VinFast model. It also gives owners the flexibility of using WiFi, Bluetooth, or Ethernet to connect to the charger and monitor the vehicle’s state of charge. Using the VinFast mobile app, the vehicle’s state of charge can be tracked easily from anywhere. As a Level 2 charger, the VinFast Home Charger is eight times faster than plugging the vehicle into a standard 120-volt wall outlet.

A Simple Way to Charge

Each charger features the industry standard SAE J1772 connector, otherwise known as the Type 1 connector, and has a 25-foot cable for easy charging no matter where the charger is placed. The front of the charger has a large LED screen that allows users to see charging information when their vehicle is plugged in.

VinFast Home Charger InstalledEasy Installation Process

Thanks to a partnership with Qmerit, the home charger can be easily installed by a qualified professional. After completing a brief survey about the home where the charger will be located, an estimate will be sent soon after that, and an installer will contact the owner to set a date. It’s really that simple.

VinFast EV Home ChargingWarranty and Future Features

All VinFast Home Chargers come with a one-year warranty, and soon, owners will be able to schedule charging, start and stop the charger remotely, and track electricity consumption through the mobile app.

Leasing A VinFast VF8 vs Luxury Crossover

New VinFast VF8 Front View Lakeside

New VinFast VF8 Front View LakesideLeasing an electric vehicle is one of the smartest decisions a buyer can make when looking to get a new car. We have discussed before why leasing an EV makes sense in general, especially a VinFast VF8. Electric Vehicle technology is advancing at an amazing rate, and leasing can help keep you at the forefront of innovation.

New VinFast VF8 Touchscreen

Luxury Brands Are Nice, But Too Costly

One of the reasons leasing can be good is because leased vehicles typically have a lower monthly payment, especially for the VF8. Brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and the like work hard to convince buyers that they have everything customers need. However, all that glitters is not gold, as some vehicles will start from $50,000 and will quickly cost $70,000 just with a few simple options. Each of those brands has lease offers that are above $400 and $500 per month for base cars with thousands of dollars down before you can drive away. This is not the case with the VinFast VF8, as you can choose between the Eco and Plus that retail for $47,325 and $51,800, respectively, with most features and luxuries being standard equipment.

A Starting Price with Most Features Standard

For just $199 per month for 36 months, the VF8 makes an excellent case for being the best luxury vehicle on the market for the price. Unlike many cars that buyers would compare to the VF8, the VinFast comes standard with more features than almost anything else, such as a Head-Up Display, all-wheel drive, a dual-motor battery, and a towing capacity of up to 4,000 lbs, which is more than the standard capacity on the Volkswagen ID.4, Hyundai Ioniq 5, BMW iX, and more.

2024 VinFast VF8 ChargingSpeed and Range

The VinFast VF8 is also pretty fast for a luxury crossover that isn’t about performance. It will get from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds and has a range of 264 miles, which is faster than the 8.5-second Mercedes-Benz EQB, which also only has 251 miles of driving range.

Trim Levels, Power, and Charging

The VF8 is available in two different trim levels, the Eco and Plus. The Eco model has a 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, while the Plus model puts out 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. Both vehicles feature an 87.7 kWh electric motor that drives all four wheels and can be charged from 10% to 70% in just 31 minutes on a Level 3 DC fast charger. Buyers can opt for the $599 VinFast Home Charger, which is hardwired to your breaker box and will output 250 volts and 50 amps.

New VinFast VF8 Front Side ViewThe Best Lease Offers and Warranties Around

VinFast is offering the VinFast VF8 Eco for $199 per month for 36 months with $0 down or the Plus for just $249 for 36 months with $0 down. Both vehicles can be driven 10,000 miles per year without incurring any extra fees. Both models also come standard with a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty, which is far and away the best battery warranty of any vehicle currently for sale.

VinFast VF8 vs Tesla Model Y

New VinFast VF8 Side Profile

New VinFast VF8 Side ProfileIt’s that time again when we take you through the ins and outs of the VinFast VF8 and compare it to another luxury electric vehicle that has a popular name. We have gone through the Volkswagen ID.4, BMW iX, Rivian R1S, Cadillac Lyriq, and Mercedes-Benz EQB, among others. It has become evident that the VF8 punches well above its weight and is easily comparable to legacy automotive brands in the EV space. This time, we’re taking a look at how well the VinFast stacks up against the Tesla Model Y.

2024 VinFast VF8 Sony RIDEVU Interior Dash ViewThe Tesla Model Y has been a very successful electric crossover. It’s based on the extremely popular Model 3 and can seat up to seven people when optioned with the cramped, $2,000 third row. However, Tesla is in somewhat of a sales slump, especially the Model 3 and Y. Some of that is due to the expansion of the EV market, where pretty much every automaker has their own electric vehicles to compete against Tesla. Another part is that the company’s main owner and CEO, Elon Musk, is somewhat divisive.

New VinFast VF8 TouchscreenFor 2024, the Model Y is available in three flavors: Long Range AWD, Standard Range RWD, and Performance. Long Range all-wheel drive models cost $49,630 and feature an 80.5 kWh battery pack with a dual-motor setup that produces 384 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque and allows for up to 308 miles of driving range. According to Car and Driver, rear-wheel drive Model Ys have only 260 miles of range and run $44,630. The range-topping Performance model also has all-wheel drive and can get from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, but that’s all Tesla really tells anyone. No horsepower or torque figures are given, and Tesla does not have a PR department. They do say it has a driving range of 279 miles, though, and costs $54,130.

VinFast VF8 AirbagsAccording to Tesla’s website, with no money down, a Model Y SR RWD will run you $534 per month for 36 months, $542 a month for the LR AWD, and then $695 for the Performance model. The Model Y, in all configurations, is able to tow up to 3,500 lbs when properly equipped.

The biggest claim to Tesla’s fame is its Supercharger network, a Level 3 fast charging system that is pretty flawless for Tesla owners. However, the Supercharger network is now open to all other automakers, and there have been reports of VinFast VF8 owners using Superchargers without issue.

2024 VinFast VF8 Charging

The VinFast VF8 Eco has a base price of $47,325, and the Plus trim starts from $51,800. Unlike the Tesla, VinFast is happy to publish that their VF8 trims have an 87.7 kWh battery park that gives Eco models 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque and 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque in the Plus trim. The EPA estimates that owners can expect 264 miles of driving range in Eco models and 243 miles in Plus models between charges. There is currently no performance VF8 model, but VinFast also doesn’t need a speedy model just to convince people they need an EV. The VF8 can also tow 4,000 lbs when properly equipped, which is more than the Tesla.

With no money down, buyers can drive away with a brand new VF8 Eco for just $199 per month for 36 months or $249 per month for the Plus model. All VF8 models come standard with a Head-Up Display, which the Tesla does not even have as an option. It also includes Sony’s revolutionary RideVu feature that allows anyone in a VinFast to watch 2,000 different Sony TV shows and movies either on the large 15.6-inch infotainment screen (when stationary, of course) or on their smartphone, tablet, or laptop when it is connected to the vehicle’s in-car WiFi. Every model also has premium vegan leather.

New VinFast VF8 FrunkOne of the features Tesla owners have always howled about, FSD, or Full Self Driving, turned out to be not so natural, with the U.S. government stepping in and telling Tesla they could no longer advertise their hands-free driving mode as hands-free or that it is fully self-driving. VinFast is completely honest and transparent with its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and safety features that include Traffic Jam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Centering Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, Intelligent Speed Recognition, Traffic Sign Recognition, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Door Opening Warning, Front Automatic Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keep Assist, Front Parking Assist, Rear Parking Assist, backup camera, Automatic High Beam, and a 360-degree Surround View Camera system. All models also come with 11 airbags as standard safety equipment.

2024 VinFast VF8 Rear Side ViewIn the end, if you are bored of the same old cars with the same old names, then why not give VinFast a try? The VF8 also has the industry’s best warranty, with a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty that no other automaker can match, not even Tesla, with its 8-year, 120,000-mile warranty.

At Ewing VinFast of Plano, we have the best prices on dozens of new VinFast EVs and used cars. Our well-educated sales staff and finance department will happily assist you with your EV questions and needs. Our fantastic service department will ensure your vehicle stays in the best condition.
