VinFast Helps Usher the EV Revolution through Affordability and High Value

Revolutions never happen if only the elite can take action. It was only when computers became affordable and easy for the average household to use that the computer revolution occurred. Consider also that mobile phones existed long before cell phones did. However, they were large, unwieldy, and most importantly, expensive. The affordability of cell phones is what changed the industry, leading to the smartphones we all use today as a natural progression. VinFast understands this and has built its business model around it. Its plan was impressive enough that Ewing VinFast was added to its automotive group.

It’s not just about affordability; value is just as important. An ideal example is the car industry in the 1970s. Geopolitical changes created a need for more fuel-efficient cars. The responses from established carmakers—the Chevrolet Vega, Ford Pinto, and AMC Gremlin—were indeed small and affordable vehicles, but they lacked value. With a history of competing with small vehicles, Japanese carmakers entered the market and ultimately transformed the industry.

VinFast can be seen as taking a similar approach. The trend is moving toward electric vehicles, which do not pollute the air or warm the environment, are much more energy efficient, and do not depend on a dwindling natural resource that has often caused global conflicts. This shift began with vehicles in the large luxury sedan segment and now includes other luxury cars, large, expensive SUVs, and pickup trucks.

In November 2023, an S&P Global Mobility survey of 7,500 global consumers found that nearly half (48%) viewed electric vehicles as too costly. Even though it was understood that EVs have lower operating and maintenance expenses, the high purchase price kept these vehicles out of reach. The survey also showed that because the EV market was dominated by luxury models, consumers saw EVs as luxury items.

Clearly a gap exists, and VinFast aims to fill it by establishing these three core pillars for its entry into the U.S. market:

  • High-quality products
  • Inclusive pricing
  • Outstanding after-sales policy

The term “inclusive” means providing desirable, well-equipped, and affordable vehicles to the EV market.

This is why all VinFast models have an Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) standard on all models, which includes technologies such as:

  • Traffic jam assist
  • Highway assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Lane centering assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Intelligent speed adaptation
  • Forward collision warning
  • Front Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Blind-spot warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • 360° Surround View Monitor
  • Automatic High beams
  • Traffic Sign Recognition

Even on the base model, you will find attractive features like an eight-speaker audio system, heated front seats with eight-way power adjustment for the driver and six-way power for the front passenger, dual climate control, and so much more.

As for its “outstanding after-sales policy,” VinFast points to its ten-year/125K-mile warranty and ten-year unlimited mileage battery warranty.
