VinFast equips all cars with all-wheel drive as standard, something most other EVs can’t say they have until you spend thousands of dollars more on a higher trim level.

Cargo Space

Practicality doesn’t fall by the wayside either, as the VF8 has ample space for five passengers, their luggage, and room left over. Owners will find 13.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 48.4 cubic feet when folded flat. In the front trunk, or frunk, lies an extra 2.7 cu.ft.

Special Modes

More than anything, though, is the power of the 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display that shows every relevant bit of information for your car. More so, features like Camp Mode and Pet Mode that let you set a temperature for the interior while you enjoy hanging out.

Sony RIDEVU

Furthermore, with the 15.6-inch infotainment system, the VF8 is able to play 2,000 movies and TV shows on the screen when parked, thanks to Sony Pictures Entertainment and its free Sony RIDEVU service. If the car is in motion, passengers can watch content on devices that are connected to the in-car WiFi hotspot.

VinFast VF 9 vs Hyundai IONIQ 9

The 2025 VinFast VF9 is one of the first three-row electric SUVs and also one of the least expensive when accounting for standard features and options that are generally costly extras on other vehicles. In our ongoing series of comparing the VF8 and VF9 to their main competitors, we have found that, even when up against the cream of the crop from Germany, Japan, Korea, and America, VinFast models hold up nicely… especially for a car company that’s only been around since 2017.

The First-Ever Hyundai Ioniq 9

This time, we’re taking a look at the newly released Hyundai Ioniq 9, the company’s first-ever three-row EV SUV. The Ioniq 9 shares some of its architecture with the Kia EV9, which has come up against the VF9 in a previous article. But, while there are some similarities between the Hyundai and the Kia, there are plenty of differences.

A Price That’ll Make You Take a Step Back

The 2026 Ioniq 9 has a starting price of $60,555 for the base, rear-wheel drive S trim. That jumps up to $79,090 for the top Calligraphy Design trim level. Amazingly, that trim level only comes in two colors that both cost $1,000 and has no options.

The VF9 Is Perfectly Priced

VinFast has priced the 2025 VF9 from $62,900 and is available in Eco and Plus. Both trim levels are standard with dual-motor all-wheel drive, Head-Up Display (HUD), a 123-kWh battery, and each has 402 horsepower with 457 lb-ft of torque. The Eco has an EPA-rated 330 miles of driving range, with the Plus offering 291 miles. Each trim also features vegan leather seating surfaces for ultimate luxury and comfort.

Inside The VF9 Is Where the Party Is

The interior of the VF9 features a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display that offers control of everything in the vehicle and shows your speed, navigation, music, and the like. Thanks to the standard HUD, you don’t need a gauge cluster as every piece of pertinent information is displayed on the windshield, so you never have to take your eyes off the road.

The Plus Trim Offers Some Unique Features

If you decide to get the Plus trim level, the standard rear bench seat in the Eco becomes captain’s chairs with a center console for rear passengers and a built-in wireless charger. The captain’s chairs are 8-way power adjustable with heated, ventilated, and massaging seats. Rear occupants will also get an 8-inch screen on the center console to view content.

The Hyundai May Seem Less Expensive, But…

While at first glance you may think that the Hyundai is cheaper, but not so fast. As previously mentioned, the base Ioniq 9 S model appears to be a bargain, but it is rear-wheel drive-only, does not offer a Head-Up Display, and is quite slow with its 215 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. It also only offers five extra miles of range at 335, so basically the same as the VF9. It isn’t until you step up to the SE model that costs $64,365, where you can get AWD, but still no HUD. The S and SE trims only offer cloth seats, which is kind of ridiculous for a so-called premium SUV that’s going to run you more than $60,000. You’ll have to spend $67,920 to get Hyundai’s H-Tex leather-like seats. And if you would like to have a Head-Up Display in your Ioniq 9, you’ll need to jump up and spend $76,590 for the second-highest Calligraphy trim level. That is absolutely ridiculous.

And You Get a Charger, And You Get a Charger

Whether you choose the Eco or Plus, the VinFast VF9 has all occupants covered in the device charging department. Standard on both trims is a total of six USB-A charge ports with one 90-watt USB-C port that can charge any laptop currently on the market. If you have the Plus, the second-row passengers will get two extra USB-A ports.

Sony RIDEVU Is the Gamechanger You’ve Been Waiting For

To keep everyone entertained, the VF9 is offered as standard with Sony RIDEVU, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s in-car service offering 2,000 shows and movies to watch from their archives. When parked, content can be viewed on the 15.6-inch display, or any device connected to the standard WiFi hotspot can access the app and watch movies or shows. Hyundai definitely doesn’t offer a service like that, let alone a free service.

Hyundai’s Warranty Just Can’t Keep Up

Don’t forget, VinFast vehicles come with the world’s best warranty with 10 years or 125,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage, plus 10 years and unlimited miles of coverage for the battery system. The Ioniq 9 is covered by a 5-year, 60,000-mile standard warranty, with the battery being taken care of for 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

In 2025, there is no reason to settle for a good product that costs a lot of money when you can have a great product that doesn’t break the bank in comparison. VinFast VF9 Showcases the Need for Large, Comfortable EV SUVs

In a world where every buyer wants a three-row SUV for their family or just in case they end up having a family, VinFast is meeting the challenge by offering the VF9. There is a rising need for larger vehicles that can accommodate people in the third row and also be eco-friendly.

One of the Few 3-Row EV Options

There are very few electric options on the market that have a third row, and the VF9 is one of the first and also one of the most accessible with a starting MSRP of $62,900. This is thousands less than equivalent vehicles from Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Rivian, BMW, Kia, and Hyundai.

What Comes Standard

Optioning your VF9 starts you off with deciding whether you want the Eco or the Plus model. But first, regardless of trim, the VF9 comes standard with all-wheel drive, something most other large EV SUVs can’t say. From there, each VF9 also has a dual-motor setup with 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. Both trims come with a Head-Up Display as standard, something that, again, most other EVs don’t include.

Performance

Testing shows a consistent 6.7-seconds to get to 60 mph from a dead stop, which makes it reasonably quick. However, it will feel quicker when you’re behind the wheel because of the no-lag electric powertrain. Even though they share the same powertrain and all, the Eco actually gets 330 miles on a full charge while the Plus has 291 miles. Both are very competitive against more established brands.

Behind the third row, owners will find 7.5 cubic feet of space and 32.7 cubic feet when that row is folded flat. The front trunk, or frunk, can also hold an extra 3.5 cu.ft. of cargo, such as groceries, backpacks, and the like.

Device Charging

Even though the VF9 is still very new, reviewers have been saying that the third row is actually a nice place to be for kids and adults, with two USB-A charge ports, one for each seat. The second row is available as a bench in Eco models or with optional captain’s chairs in the Plus trim. This means you can choose to have either seven or eight seats in your car. If you choose the captain’s chairs, the second-row passengers will get a total of four USB-A ports to charge their devices. A 90-watt USB-C port is standard on all models in the second row. The Plus model also gets an 8-inch rear screen as standard.

Sony RIDEVU

Both trim levels also come standard with an in-car WiFi hotspot and Sony RIDEVU for free. Sony RIDEVU is a service provided by Sony Pictures Entertainment that offers users the ability watch 2,000 different shows and movies from their archive on any device connected to the vehicle’s WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen display when the VF9 is parked. This makes camping with kids a whole new experience.

The VF9 Has the Ability to Tow

Speaking of camping, if you decide to take your family around the great outdoors, you can also tow up to 4,000 lbs when properly equipped. This means you can bring along a trailer, boat, jet ski, or what have you on your family adventures.

The VF9 Proves How Quickly VinFast is Learning

To understand VinFast, we have to take a look back at some automotive history for a minute. There was a time when every car in America was made by an American company. Sure, we had some British cars over the years, and then after World War II more British, German, French, and Italian cars came over than ever before. But, by in large, there was no real competition for the American sedan or pickup truck.

The Oil Crisis Changed America

Then in 1973, the oil crisis hit the US in a big way, and the American V8 became useless. It was so hard to buy enough gasoline for these monster engines. And waiting in sometimes mile-long lines for fuel was insane. This is when people started adapting to understanding that small Japanese cars with tiny engines not only cost less to buy, but were really, really… really good on gas and would take them farther on a full tank. Don’t worry, we’re getting to VinFast.

Korean-made Cars Enter America

Then, a similar thing happened in the ‘90s with Korean cars in America. They were made fun of as cheap alternatives or knockoffs of Japanese cars. Now, however, in 2025, Korean carmakers have provided a real threat and challenge to Japanese brands.

Both Countries’ Cars Took a While to Get Traction

In both cases, it took roughly 10-20 years for Japanese and Korean car brands to really put up a big fight in America. And they had already been around for decades in their respective home countries.

VF8 vs Mach-E

Welcome back to another VinFast versus an EV that tries to offer too many options that end up confusing buyers for no reason. This week, we pit the VF8 against the Ford Mustang Mach-E, a popular electric crossover meant to be a cross between an everyday crossover and a sports car. However, people see the VF8 as a viable luxury option in the EV space because it offers tons of standard equipment for a reasonable price, has the best warranty, and offers excellent leasing options. But which one takes the cake when all is said and done?

Meet The Mach-E

The 2025 Ford Mach-E has a base price of $41,185 and is available in four trim levels, including the Select, Premium, GT, and Rally. The two lowest trims of the Mach-E, the Select and Premium, feature rear-wheel drive as standard with dual-motor eAWD as an option. The GT and Rally only come with AWD. That’s one way automakers try to keep their cars cheaper, by taking away key features and pretending that they’re doing you a favor by offering a basic car at a lower price point. This is something that VinFast does not do with any of its current lineup.

A Confusing Amount of Battery and Range Choices

Ford offers the Mach-E with two batteries, the standard range 72 kWh (SR) and extended range 91 kWh (ER). The SR battery can be paired with either the rear- or electric all-wheel drive cars, and the Premium trim can be equipped with the extended range battery and eAWD, but the GT and Rally cannot. A Mach-E with the SR battery and RWD has an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles that drops to 230 when equipped with eAWD. While all models can be optioned with the extended range battery and eAWD, their range varies. Select and Premium trims will offer 300 miles of range, with the Premium ER RWD having 320 miles on a single charge. The GT and Rally will get 280 and 265 miles, respectively.

So Many Power and Torque Figures

Instead of continuing to confuse you further with all the different horsepower and torque figures, let’s just say that the lowest amount of power and torque the Mach-E can have is 264 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque. The highest amount is 480 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. The Select and Premium trims offer the choice between standard and extended range batteries with rear- or electric all-wheel drive.

What The Mach-E Offers Inside

Inside, the Mach-E has a 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a WiFi hotspot. Some trim levels can be optioned with a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system. Behind the rear seats, owners will have 29.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats up and 59.7 when they are folded. The front trunk, or frunk, also has 4.7 cu.ft. of space.

Meet The VF8

The 2025 VinFast VF8 is available to buyers in just two trim levels, the Eco and the Plus. Starting from $39,900, buyers will not have to choose much outside of exterior color as most options are standard features on the Eco, including a Head-Up Display (HUD) and a 15.6-inch touchscreen display that allows you to configure multiple settings, including Pet Mode, Camp Mode, and the like. The VF8 features 16 cu.ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats and 48.4 cu.ft. when they are folded. The frunk features an extra 2.7 cubes.

One Battery Pack, Standard AWD, and Healthy Power and Torque

The Eco and Plus models both have an 87.7 kWh battery pack with dual-motor all-wheel drive. The Eco has 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and the Plus gets 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. The EPA says the Eco is good for 256 miles on a single charge, while the Plus will travel 235 miles.

Sony RIDEVU Beats All Rivals

Both come standard with a WiFi hotspot and Sony RIDEVU, which allows passengers to watch 2,000 different shows and movies owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. These are viewable on the infotainment display when the car is parked or on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop when connected to the WiFi.

Towing Comparison

Ford says the Mach-E with the extended-range battery can tow up to 2,200 lbs when properly equipped. VinFast, however, says that all VF8 trims can tow up to 4,000 lbs when properly equipped. So, if you need to tow a small boat, some jet skis, a motorcycle, a small camper, and the like, the VF8 is the clear choice.

Leasing Options

Currently, Ford is offering the base standard range, rear-wheel drive Mach-E Select for $387 per month for 36 months with $387 due at signing. Let’s get this straight: the cheapest and most basic model is still more expensive to lease than the top-of-the-line VF8 Plus model. VinFast offers the VF8 Eco at $0 down for $279 per month for 24 months, while the Plus goes for $329 a month for 24 months with zero down.

VinFast Has a Warranty Like No Other

Another area where the Ford Mach-E absolutely cannot compete is in warranty. The Ford has a 3-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with an 8-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty. The VinFast has a 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
