The EV Report Finds the VF 8 Impressive

VinFast VF8 on the Road

The EV Report

The EV Report is dedicated to providing news, insights, and development trends related to electric vehicles. They are committed to informing about all areas of the EV industry, lifestyle, and available products. Thus, it comes as no surprise that they have turned their attention to VinFast, specifically, the VF 8.  They cover several aspects of the VF 8, and Ewing VinFast shares with you the highlights of what they found.

VinFast VF8 on the Road

The EV Report begins its review with this summary: “The VinFast VF 8 blends luxury, technology, and affordability, offering Baby Boomers and Gen X a stylish, tech-forward SUV with advanced safety, premium features, and competitive pricing.” They highlight these specific age groups because they have spent a lifetime adapting to and embracing high-tech products. Unspoken but perhaps implied is that these generations have had environmental concerns as a backdrop throughout their lives, leading to an interest in a no-emission vehicle.

VinFast VF8 Interior Touchscreen and Dash

They start with the VF 8’s design. VinFast enlisted acclaimed automobile designers Pininfarina for the model’s exterior. The renowned designer of models like the Ferrari Testarossa, 250 GT Lusso, and F40, among others, has also crafted well-known designs for Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Peugeot. While they can’t give this mid-size crossover the dramatic lines of an Italian sports car, they ensured the VF 8 has attractive proportions and that all curves and surfaces have a cohesive appearance.

They also highlight the “Luxurious Interior,” pointing out features like the 15.6-inch center display, the single point location for all vehicle information, as well as the comfortable available vegan leather seating surfaces and heated and cooled seats. They describe it as a “meticulous attention to detail, creating a European-style interior that feels both premium and eco-conscious.”

They also pointed out the VF 8’s impressive range of safety features, such as 11 airbags, including dual knee airbags and an extra airbag between the front passengers. Additionally, it features the standard Advanced Driver-Assistance System, which includes:

  • Traffic Jam Assist (Level 2)
  • Highway Assist (Level 2)
  • Lane departure and Lane Center assist
  • Lane Centering Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Front automatic Emergency braking
  • Blind Spot Detection
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Front and rear parking assist
  • 360 Surround view monitoring

Along with the above standard safety and driver assist aides, the VF 8 includes interior comfort features like an 8-way power driver seat and a 6-way power front passenger seat, both with heated capability and ambient interior lighting. Plus, the dual-motor system provides 349 hp of power, which powers the all-wheel drive. These are all on a model with a starting MSRP of $39,900. The Plus model, priced at $44,900, offers 402 horsepower along with a panoramic sunroof, 12-way and 10-way power driver and front passenger seats, and a 10-speaker audio system with a subwoofer.

This is familiar territory for a new car brand from a new country. Fifty years ago, the Japanese made a name for themselves in this country by offering vehicles with high-value features. Two decades later, Korean manufacturers introduced themselves in the same way. The only difference today is that VinFast enters with the drivetrain choice of the future, which is also new to established brands of all backgrounds. The EV Report summarizes their VF 8 Review this way: “For those ready to embrace a tech-forward, eco-conscious driving experience, the VF 8 offers a compelling blend of style, innovation, and value.” If they’re talking to you, visit Ewing VinFast, the #1 volume VinFast dealer in the country, for a test drive of the VF 8.

VinFast Expands Production Into India With New Factory

VF9 VinFast Lineup - The Future of Smart Mobility

VF9 VinFast Lineup - The Future of Smart Mobility

The demand for VinFast vehicles has been high globally. With new markets opening and enhancing current ones, it seems like the right step is to add more production capacity. This led to the opening of a new production facility in Thoothukudi, India, in the Tamil Nadu state. Located near the southern tip of India, the new plant has plenty of advantages with nearby roadways and ports for delivering new vehicles within the country and beyond.

VinFast VF9 Front View

The 400-acre site is the first VinFast production facility outside of Vietnam. It also marks the third production facility among five such projects to be built worldwide. The site includes multiple workshops: a Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Control Center, and a Logistics Hub. The site is set to bring 3,000-5,000 local workers into direct-hire jobs set to produce 50,000 vehicles, namely the VF 6 and VF 7. The facility can be scaled up to produce up to 150,000 vehicles. This is also a part of a global strategy to sell 200,000 vehicles in 2025, with a goal of 1,000,000 sales by 2030.

India has had a history of automotive production in the vast nation. The Tamil Nadu state is becoming a huge production hub due to its strategic geographical location for exports across the Indian Ocean, as well as to feed the growing domestic and regional market – including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar – to name a few nearby national markets.

VinFast VF8 Logo

The other piece to opening up the plant in Tamil Nadu state is a push towards sustainable production and adding EVs into the mix. India also has a huge potential for a push towards vehicular electrification and acceptance of vehicles, such as the VF 6 and VF 7, on Indian roads.

VinFast VF8 Logo

To accomplish these goals in Southern India, VinFast has engaged with local companies to create a supply chain within the state, along with technology transfer and workforce development.

New VinFast

What does that mean for us? Eventually, the U.S. market may see Indian-produced VinFast vehicles if the lineup expands to include these smaller models. If we see a growth in demand for these EVs across the board, could we possibly see a plant on this side of the Pacific Ocean? Maybe in Texas?

VF8 vs Honda Prologue

VinFast VF8 Plus Front Side View

VinFast VF8 Plus Front Side ViewMore and more buyers are comparing the VinFast VF8 to electric offerings from older, more established brands. This is because the VF8 is only a couple of years old at this point. We have looked at so many EVs up against the VF8, and so far, none of them have been able to offer more than the VinFast does for its amazing lease price, and none of them can match the warranty. With that said, let’s welcome this week’s challenger, the 2025 Honda Prologue.

Honda Prologue Elite Front Side View In MotionThe Honda Prologue is similar to the VF8 in that it is a first-time offering from Honda. Buyers can choose the Prologue in three trim levels: EX, Touring, and Elite. All models have an 85-kWh battery that delivers different power depending on the trim level. EX and Touring models come standard with single-motor front-wheel drive that puts out 212 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. If buyers choose to option their EX or Touring with all-wheel drive or spring for the AWD-only Elite trim, they will get a dual-motor setup with 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. While the top Elite trim gets 273 miles of range, the FWD EX and Touring will deliver 296 miles, which falls to 281 when equipped with AWD. Honda says that any Prologue trim level will charge from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes when using a Level 3 DC fast charger.

Honda prices the base Prologue EX FWD from $47,400, with the Touring FWD coming in at $51,700, and the Elite has a base price of $57,900. If you’d like an EX or Touring model with all-wheel drive, Honda adds an additional $3,000 to the starting price. In testing by Car and Driver, the Prologue Elite was able to get to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. They have yet to test the base models with less power, but it’s obvious they will be quite slow.

VinFast Infotainment ScreenNow, we come to the familiar challenger in the red and yellow shorts (the colors of the Vietnamese flag): the VinFast VF8. There are just two trims available so that customers won’t get confused with all sorts of packages and options: the Eco and Plus. The VF8 Eco has a base price of $47,325, and the Plus trim starts at $51,800. Both VF8 trims have dual motors with 87.7-kWh batteries, giving Eco models 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque and 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque for the Plus trims. While the Honda makes AWD an option, VinFast offers it as a standard feature on all VF8 models. The EPA says drivers can expect 264 miles for Eco models and 243 miles for Plus models between charges. According to VinFast, the VF8 will reach 60 mph in just 5.9 or 5.5 seconds for the Eco and Plus, respectively. Charging times are similar to the Honda, with about 35 minutes to charge from 10-70% on a DC fast charger.

Honda Prologue Elite Interior DashAmazingly, like the VinFast, the Prologue has a Head-Up Display (HUD). Not so amazingly, though, it’s only available on the top Elite trim, whereas the VF8 comes standard with HUD no matter which trim you choose. So, good try, Honda, but we’ll have to deduct some points for you not offering HUD as a standard safety feature that buyers need with the ever-growing number of distractions in a car. VinFast understands that anything can happen the more you take your eyes off the road to look at other screens, including for directions. With a proper Head-Up Display, every piece of information you need is right in your eyeline.

Speaking of screens, the Honda Prologue comes standard with an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display that compares unfavorably to the VF8 with its 15.6-inch touchscreen display. While the Honda also has an 11-inch digital gauge cluster display, VinFast forgoes this as all of the information can be seen and accessed on both the infotainment screen and the standard HUD.

VinFast Smartphone AppAs always, there is one specific feature that is standard on the VF8 that you can’t get on any other EV: Sony RIDEVU. With RIDEVU, owners can watch as many as 2,000 TV shows and movies on the in-car 15.6-inch infotainment system when the car is parked. Or, if you are driving, passengers can watch content on a device connected to the in-car Wi-Fi.

Honda recommends that you tow no more than 1,500 lbs with your Prologue, making it a little difficult to travel with a camper or anything of the sort. The VF8, however, offers up to 4,000 lbs of towing ability when properly equipped, which makes the VinFast a much better option for families that enjoy a good outdoor vacation where they can bring a boat, jet skis, camper, or anything like that. It’ll be easier to tow a U-Haul if you need to move between homes, cities, or states.

Both the Honda Prologue and VinFast VF8 offer solid lease specials, however, with a twist. Buyers can lease the base EX with AWD Prologue for just $279 per month… with $3,099 due at signing. The Elite trim offers a 36-month lease for $407 a month with $3,312 due at signing. Sadly, those are just okay leasing deals. VinFast is currently offering the VF8 Eco for $279 per month for 24 months, with $974 due before you drive off. Or, if you would like the top Plus trim, that will cost just $1,024 down with a $329 monthly payment for 24 months.

New VinFast VF8 Cargo SpaceWhen it comes to vehicle warranties, so far, no one can even come close to how good VinFast customers have it. The base, bumper-to-bumper warranty covers you for 10 years or 125,000 miles, and the battery comes with a 10-year, unlimited-mile warranty. What does Honda think is appropriate for Prologue customers? A simple 3-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Another EV bites the dust in the warranty department.

We have now seen the VinFast VF8 come out ahead of offerings from Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Genesis, Rivian, Volkswagen, BMW, Tesla, and now Honda. While these are all nice EVs, it just goes to show how hard VinFast has worked to provide a first-ever model that can compete so easily with vehicles from some of the best automotive brands in the world.

Living With The VF8 For A Week

2024 VinFast VF8 Rear View Parked

2024 VinFast VF8 Front Side ViewThe 2024 VinFast VF8 has been making waves with technology reviewers lately, mainly because of its advanced safety and entertainment features. In a recent video by YouTube tech vlogger Andres Vidoza, the VF8 was front and center as the vehicle the content creator drove for an entire week to give his opinion and feedback. So, what did he think after a full seven days of living with a VinFast?

2024 VinFast VF8 Rear View ParkedA Proper YouTube Test

The first thing that the YouTuber noticed was the quality and shade of VinFast Blue, the particular color of the VF8 he tested. He found the headlights and rear taillight bar very unique, the way they meet in the middle to match the VinFast V logo, “I think the nicest angle this car has to offer is the rear 3/4s. Every time I park this and look back, for an EV, I liked what I saw. It’s really nice, I personally like the design of the end of the taillight.”

2024 VinFast VF8 Interior Dash ViewTrim Levels and Performance

For 2024, the VinFast VF8 is available to customers in two trim levels, Eco and the Plus. With both models, the VF8 will get an 87.7 kWh dual-motor battery pack with standard all-wheel drive, which are two things that are typically optional in most EVs. The Eco trim has 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque that can get owners from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. Stepping up to the Plus trim gives buyers 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque and will reach 60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds.

2024 VinFast VF8 Airbags and SafetySubtle Styling and Usability

When it came to how the VF8 integrates all of the cameras and sensors, Mr. Vidoza felt that the VinFast design language of discrete and subtle made him like the design that much more. He also remarked on how nice it was that the company even found a way to hide the rear windscreen wiper, something most automakers don’t bother to do.

No Pollution

As someone who isn’t used to an electric vehicle, Andres found it interesting that the VF8 will either turn off by itself or ask if you’d like to put the car into camp mode. His understanding of gas-powered cars made it all the more amazing that he wasn’t polluting while sitting idle or even wasting any of the vehicle’s energy.

2024 VinFast VF8 Side ViewFaster Than VinFast Says?

When it came time to drive the VF8, Andres really enjoyed the on-demand power. He said that on the highway, the amount of power and torque the VinFast has allows it to get up to speed and pass people more easily. While VinFast says the VF8 Plus gets to 60 mph in around 5.5 seconds, Andres believes it’s faster, saying, “This doesn’t feel like a 0-60 in 5 second car, absolutely not. This car makes you feel like you can go anywhere right past people.” He also found that the adaptive cruise control system was perfect and easy to use while allowing for proper hands-free driving on the highway.

What Was the Final Verdict?

So, what did Andres Vidoza think after a full week of driving a 2024 VinFast VF8 like it was his? “But what I like the most is that the company [VinFast] seems to listen and takes criticism really well … The interior does feel solid. The car overall feels roomy. The power sunroof is nice, and having a physical powered shade is nicer. Knowing that this has an unlimited mileage battery warranty for 10 years makes me feel even better.”

Some Things to Consider When Replacing Tires on Your VinFast

Noise Reduction Tire Technology

Noise Reduction Tire TechnologyTires are tires… they’re all the same, right? Very wrong. Sports cars should use tires specific to performance driving, while SUVs and trucks should use tires that can handle the loads of towing and hauling. An electric vehicle should utilize the tires that come with the vehicle. Why? Because the automaker, such as VinFast, has worked with tire companies to engineer tires that are best for road noise, ride quality, longevity, heavy loads, and efficiency.

VinFast VF9 Front ViewNoise, Vibration, Harshness

Electric cars, like the VinFast VF8, have less overall harsh noises when driving than a standard gas-powered car. Since there is no engine, exhaust, etc., an EV is quieter. However, tires inherently invite harsh sounds into the cabin through vibrations. The reason being that they try to mellow out the driving surface for optimal comfort and performance. Because an EV is quiet, tire manufacturers have had to engineer tires that do not emit as many harsh tones into the vehicle’s cabin through new advancements in tire tech called Noise Reduction Technology. This typically involves tire companies insulating the tire so that it’s less hollow and/or different tread patterns, therefore reducing vibrations.

Michelin Pilot Sport EV TiresShould You Buy UHP Tires?

When looking for new tires for your VinFast, be careful of performance-oriented EV tires. While some electric vehicles benefit greatly from having tires that are called Ultra-High Performance (UHP), many EVs simply don’t need them, as they will destroy the efficiency of your car through extra rolling resistance. Most hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and non-performance-oriented EVs rely heavily on low-rolling-resistance tires to maximize the vehicle’s fuel mileage or electric range.

Always Look at the Load Rating

One thing to also keep in mind as you are looking for tires is that EVs are typically about 10% heavier than a gas-powered car, meaning that they can wear through tires more quickly. According to some data, an EV can go through tires up to 20% faster than a standard car, which is why you want to make sure you are buying the right tires for your car’s load rating. New High Load (HL) tires are becoming part of the new standard tires for certain EVs in order to handle the extra overall vehicle load, meaning its curb weight plus the amount of weight it can carry inside the vehicle, i.e., passengers, luggage, etc. The VF8 has a tire load index of 103, which means that each tire when filled to its max psi, can carry 1,929 lbs per tire. Time that by four, and you have tires that can handle 7,716 lbs. The VF8 weighs about 5,800 lbs, which means it can carry an extra 1,916 lbs worth of people and stuff. But be careful because that adds up quickly.

2024 VinFast VF8 On the RoadWhich Tires Are Best for Your VinFast?

Ultimately, it is best to stick with the same tires you already have on your VinFast when looking for a new set of tires. That is unless you’re willing to spend a bunch of money going through different sets of tires every few months to know which ones you prefer.
