VinFast VF 8 vs The Competition

2025 VinFast VF8 vs the Competition

The 2025 VinFast VF8 has come onto the scene and has started creating a promising future for itself. As a first-ever vehicle for VinFast in the American market, the VF8 has high-end luxury features (including a standard head-up display), great safety, the best battery warranty of any electric vehicle in the world, and lease specials that will make almost anyone fall in love. The exclusive inclusion of Sony RIDEVU offers world-beating entertainment with 2,000 Sony Entertainment movies and TV shows available to anyone with a device attached to the in-car WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when parked.

There are two VF8 trim levels: Eco and Plus. Both models come standard as dual-motor all-wheel drive EVs with 87.7-kWh battery capacities. The base Eco trim offers 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with 264 miles of range and a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds, for just $46,000. Stepping up to the Plus trim gives owners 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque that will propel you to 60 mph in under 5.5 seconds. Drivers can expect to drive 243 miles on a full charge, all for around $52,000.

We have previously shown how the VinFast stacks up against each vehicle below in our “Dollars and Sense” versus series.

2025 VinFast VF8 vs the Cadillac Lyriq

VinFast VF8 vs. Cadillac Lyriq

For 2025, the Cadillac Lyriq EV arrives at dealer lots with a base MSRP of $60,615 for the Luxury trim and $61,115 for the Sport trim. Both models offer standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) and optional all-wheel drive (AWD). The RWD model comes with 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, while AWD models have 500 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose between three versions of each trim level: Luxury 1, 2, and 3; and Sport 1, 2, and 3.

  • The VinFast VF8 comes standard with AWD for both the Eco and Plus trim levels. However, both Lyriq trims offer rear-wheel drive as standard with all-wheel drive being a $4,000 (Lyriq Luxury) and $3,500 (Sport) option. That brings the price of the base Luxury 1 trim to $64,115 and the base Sport 1 trim to $64,615. That’s almost $20,000 more than the $46,000 MSRP of the VF8.
  • Cadillac offers customers a standard four-year, 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with a six-year, 70,000-mile powertrain warranty, and an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty. This pales in comparison to the VF8, which gives buyers a pair of ten-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties, plus the world’s best ten-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
  • In terms of entertainment, the Lyriq gives the driver and passenger the usual suite of features including satellite radio, Bluetooth audio, Google Built-In, and the like. However, VinFast offers Sony RIDEVU from Sony Entertainment to everyone in the car. With this free service, passengers can watch as many as 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows on any device that’s hooked up to the in-car VinFast WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the VF8 is parked.
  • Vinfast and Cadillac both offer their own home chargers that can be installed by qualified professionals. Cadillac offers its 11.5-kW, 240v charger for $699 while VinFast asks just $599 for its 12-kW, 240v charger.
  • The VinFast has 2.7 cubic feet of front trunk (frunk) space, which is enough space to hold some groceries, a backpack, or a duffel bag, among other things. The Cadillac Lyriq, however, does not offer a frunk for extra cargo capacity.
  • Every VF8 is able to tow up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped, which is 500 pounds more than the Cadillac Lyriq—but only if it’s optioned with the costly dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. Cadillac does not recommend towing with the RWD models. That’s disappointing.

2025 VinFast VF8 vs the BMW iX

VinFast VF8 vs. BMW iX

The BMW iX is the company’s introduction into the luxury EV market and is available either as the iX xDrive50i or the iX M60. Both models feature 111.5-kWh battery packs that give the xDrive50i 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque, or 610 horsepower and 749 lb-ft of torque in the M60. Both models come standard with all-wheel drive.

  • BMW offers the iX EV with a four-year, 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranty, plus an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty. This does not compare favorably to the VF8, which comes standard with ten-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties, plus the world’s best ten-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
  • The iX comes standard with normal entertainment features, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an in-car Amazon Fire TV system that allows for on-demand media like live television, movies, and the like. However, you have to have either ConnectedDriver Professional or BMW Digital Premium optioned. The VF8, on the other hand, gives customers Sony RIDEVU from Sony Entertainment to everyone in the car. As a free service, passengers can watch as many as 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows on any device that’s hooked up to the in-car VinFast WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the VF8 is parked.
  • With its base MSRP of $88,245, the BMW iX is over $40,000 more expensive than the base MSRP of the VinFast VF8 Eco.
  • While it seems customary for an electric vehicle to offer more cargo space because it does not have an internal combustion engine, the BMW iX does not have a front trunk (frunk), which seriously limits the amount of extra cargo space buyers look for in an EV. VinFast has given the VF8 2.7 cubic feet of frunk space, which is plenty of space for some groceries, a backpack, or even a duffel bag for a weekend away.
  • The BMW home charger costs the same as the VinFast home charger at $599, but the BMW charger can only charge at 9.6 kW, which is slower than the 12-kW rate of the VinFast home charger.

2025 VinFast VF8 vs the Genesis GV60

VinFast VF8 vs. Genesis GV60

The Genesis GV60 is one of the first all-electric offerings from the Korean luxury brand. While all-wheel drive is optional, the GV60 comes standard with rear-wheel drive. The vehicle is available in four different trim levels that include the Standard RWD, Standard AWD, Advanced AWD, and Performance AWD. Horsepower ranges from 225 in the Standard RWD up to 429 in the Performance AWD.

  • Gensis offers the GV60 with a standard five-year, 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a ten-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and finally an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty. VinFast prefers to make sure customers feel completely covered in its VF8, which has a pair of ten-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties, plus the world’s best ten-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
  • The GV60 offers no real in-car entertainment, outside of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All VinFast models come standard with Sony RIDEVU from Sony Entertainment that allows you to stream content to any device that is attached to the vehicle’s in-car WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the car is parked. RIDEVU allows passengers to choose from 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows.
  • Genesis only recommends towing no more than 2,000 pounds with a GV60, while VinFast says the VF8 is able to tow 4,000 pounds when properly equipped.
  • The Advanced AWD GV60 can travel 248 miles on a full charge, which is a bit less than the VF8 Eco with 264 miles of driving range.
  • The base Standard RWD GV60 has a starting MSRP of $53,800, which is $1,800 more than the top trim VF8 Plus, and $7,000 more than the base VF8 Eco.
  • Unlike the BMW iX and Cadillac Lyriq, the GV60 does have a front trunk (frunk); sadly, it is only 0.7 cubic feet. The VinFast VF8 has a 2.7-cubic-foot frunk, which is great for duffel bags, some groceries, or a backpack.

2025 VinFast VF8 vs the Tesla Model Y

VinFast VF8 Versus Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y set the pace for modern EVs. Buyers can choose between the Standard RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance.

  • Tesla offers customers a simple four-year, 50,000-mile basic bumper-to-bumper warranty and an eight-year, 120,000-mile battery warranty. The VF8 gives buyers a pair of ten-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties, plus the world’s best ten-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
  • VinFast offers Sony RIDEVU from Sony Entertainment for free to everyone in the car that is on the in-car WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when parked. This standard service in all VinFast vehicles gives customers the ability to stream up to 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows. Tesla does not offer any such service for the Model Y.
  • Model Y customers will be able to tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped, which is less than the 4,000 pounds that the VF8 can tow.
