VinFast VF9 vs The Competition

The 2025 VinFast VF9 is an excellent new offering that gives buyers a 3-row SUV with premium luxury amenities and brilliant safety features, like a standard Head-Up Display (HUD), Sony RIDEVU, a non-confusing set of trim levels, and more, for a modest starting price of only $79,800.

Buyers can opt for either the Eco or the Plus. Both models come standard with all-wheel drive and a dual motor 123 kWh battery that delivers 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. The base Eco trim delivers great driving performance with 330 miles of range on a full charge and 291 miles in the VF9 Plus.

The VF9 Eco features a bench second-row seat, while the Plus has captain’s chairs with its own center console for storage. All VinFast models feature a 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty that is the best in the industry for any kind of vehicle.

2025 VinFast VF9 vs the Kia EV9

VinFast VF9 vs. Kia EV9

The 2025 Kia EV9 is the company’s first offering in the premium 3-row EV world. Buyers can choose between five different trim levels: Light RWD, Light Long Range RWD, Wind AWD, Land AWD, and GT-Line AWD. Obviously, all-wheel drive is an option with the Kia. The EV9 starts at $56,395.

  • The Kia EV9 offers standard rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive being optional and costing buyers an extra $5,000. The VinFast VF9 offers standard all-wheel drive with both the Eco and Plus models.
  • Kia provides owners of the EV9 with a 4-year, 60,000-mile basic bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 19-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty. Kia’s warranty doesn’t hold up in comparison to the VF9, which gives buyers a pair of 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties, plus the world’s best 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
  • Buyers love features like a Head-Up Display (HUD) that allows them to see relevant information displayed on the lower portion of the driver’s windshield. The EV9 offers this safety feature only on the top GT-Line trim, which starts from $75,395. VinFast believes a HUD is an important safety feature of any modern car and offers the technology as standard on the VF9.
  • VinFast exclusively offers Sony RIDEVU from Sony Pictures Entertainment to everyone in the car. The free service allows passengers to watch up to 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows on any device connected to the in-car VinFast WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the VF9 is parked. The Kia EV9 offers no such service.
  • The base Kia EV9 Light has only 230 miles of range on a full charge, compared to the base VF9 Eco, which has 330 miles of driving range.
  • When given a full charge, the top-of-the-line $75,385 EV9 GT-Line has just 270 miles of driving range compared to the VinFast VF9 Plus with 291 miles.

2025 VinFast VF9 vs the Volvo EX90

VinFast VF9 vs. Volvo EX90

The Volvo EX90 is a luxury three-row SUV based on the company’s flagship SUV, the XC90. However, it is all-electric. Buyers can choose between the Plus and Ultra trim levels, which feature a Twin Motor all-wheel drive system with a 107-kWh battery pack. The EX90 starts from $81,290.

  • Volvo only offers the EX90 with a 4-year, 50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranty and an 8-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty. This pales in comparison to the VF9, which gives buyers a pair of 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties and the world’s best 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
  • When buying or leasing a VF9, all customers will have free access to Sony RIDEVU from Sony Entertainment for everyone in the car. Using RIDEVU, passengers can watch as many as 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows on any device that’s hooked up to the in-car VinFast WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the VF9 is parked. Volvo does not offer Sony RIDEVU to its customers.
  • The EX90, like most EV SUVs, has a front trunk (frunk) that can hold a minimal amount of extra luggage, groceries, or what have you. Sadly, though, the Volvo only has a 1.6 cubic foot frunk compared to the 3.5 cu.ft. in the VinFast.
  • VinFast offers customers a very well-rated and liked home charger that charges the VF9 at 12kW from a 240v charger. Volvo, for some reason, does not offer its own charger; instead, it pushes you towards third-party companies.
  • The EX90’s top-of-the-line Ultra trim offers similar features and options to the base VF9 Eco trim. Its starting price is $85,640, nearly $6,000 more than the VF9. Keep in mind that this is before you add any extra options like special exterior paint.
  • The EX90’s base trim level only has 300 miles of EPA-estimated driving range. On a full charge, the VinFast VF9 gives drivers 330 miles of range.

2025 VinFast VF9 vs the Rivian R1S

VinFast VF9 vs. Rivian R1S

The Rivian R1S is one of the more fascinating EVs on the market, as it is an entirely unique brand that is its own company. That’s hard to do. Starting from $75,900, the R1S offers unique features and styling. A claim to fame for the Rivian is its horsepower rating of 1,025 for the top R1S Quad with a quad motor and all-wheel drive, which has a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds.

  • Rivian offers buyers too many confusing trim level options, such as the Dual Standard, Dual, Tri, and Quad, each with a wide range of power and range options. VinFast offers just two simple trim levels: Eco and Plus.
  • The standard R1S Dual Standard only has 270 miles of driving range. The VF9, however, has 330 miles of range on its standard base Eco model.
  • The Rivian R1S has a 4-year, 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and an 8-year, 120,000-150,000-mile battery warranty, which varies depending on your trim level. This does not stack up well compared to the VF9, which gives buyers a pair of 10-year, 125,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties, plus the world’s best 10-year, unlimited-mile battery warranty.
  • One of the greatest offerings of any modern vehicle is the completely free and exclusive Sony RIDEVU from Sony Entertainment in the VinFast VF9. With this free service, passengers can watch as many as 2,000 different Sony movies and TV shows on any device that’s hooked up to the in-car VinFast WiFi or on the 15.6-inch infotainment screen when the VF9 is parked. Sadly, as much as the Rivian offers, it does not give customers an equivalent type of in-car entertainment feature.
  • The VinFast VF9 comes standard with a Head-Up Display (HUD), Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Rivian R1S, however, offers none of that technology on any of their vehicles.
